I really liked that kid and thought with Dave's guidance, he could mature into a good pitcher.

Wainwright is getting a second opinion from orthopedist Lewis Yocum, to see if he confirms what the Cards medical team says, and that being TJS for Wainwright

This is obviously horrible news for the Cardinals. He's pretty much irreplaceable. I once considered them dark horse World Series winners because if they managed to get in the playoffs then Carpenter-Wainwright are a serious threat to any team.

Also looks like his options for 2012 and 2013 won't kick in now if he goes ahead with the surgery which is looking more and more likely. He was shut down at the end of last year with a similar problem, and looks like they tried to see if a few months off would fix the problem. Guess not.

Yeah I was about to post the same thing.
He wasnt singing about Wainwright at all, he was just singing a song thats it.
Hal McCoy is a legend in these parts but if he doesnt watch it he is going to be banned from the Reds clubhouse. He doesnt have the backing of a large newspaper like he use to.
For him to assume that Gomes was singing and joyous about Wainwright being hurnt is really unprofessional. Mark Sheldon from MLB.com saw the whole thing play out and insist Gomes only asked what happened to Wainwright and never acted happy that he was hurnt or sang a joyous melody as McCoy first reported.

I'm a Reds fan and I still think this is tragic. I never like to see a team play without one of their best players.
              NFL: Indianapolis Colts (12-6)
              NBA: Indiana Pacers (42-13)
              MLB: Cincinnati Reds (0-0)
              NHL: Detroit Red Wings (26-20-12)
NCAA: Purdue Boilermakers (FB: 1-11, BB: 15-12), Michigan Wolverines (FB: 7-6, BB: 19-7, H: 15-10-3)

Tragic is kind of a strong word, getting canceer or losing someone in a car wreck is tragic.
A multi millionaire hurnting his elbow and missing the season, not so tragic if you ask me.
More like a tough break or a shame.

After reading every article I could fine on the whole Gomes celebrating thing, I am not sure what happened in the clubhouse.
I do know McCoy responded today and says he didnt mean to cause a stir and said he loves Gomes and doesnt think he now said it.
Sounds like he might of said it if you ask me and now McCoy is saying Gomes didnt say it just to keep access to the team. I think McCoy is afraid if he sticks to his story the Reds will ban him from the clubhouse. By the way McCoy is now back in Dayton and no longer in Arizona.

I'm sure the Dusty as well as the Reds organization was not to pleased with McCoy. I know last year Dusty was mot overly impressed with Phillips comments about the Cards last year.

Re: Adam Wainwright likely out for the year

That's a tough break for the Cards. I liked watching Wainwright pitch, except against the Reds of course. Don't care if it's a rival, I don't like seeing guys of his caliber get hurt, especially when your career is on the line. Grant it, this is routine surgery anymore for baseball players. He'll likely be back stronger than ever in 2012. But anytime a doctor cuts on you there's always a risk. That's the way I look at it anyway. Hopefully he'll have a full recovery...so the Redlegs can beat him when he's at his best ...which frankly hasn't happened much.

As far as the Gomes thing goes, I don't know what to think or who to believe. This blog entry quotes TLR saying he "knows Gomes" and "doesn't think he meant anything by it." I'm sure despite that it'll feed into the rivalry.

Not a surprise he's out for the year. The good thing as I stated earlier is that it happened now, before ST games, thus giving the Cards a chance to work someone into the rotation for about a month.

If there is some positive way to look at it, that would be it. CB, I've read some stuff about Millwood possibly being brought in. How likely is that?

Not sure. I haven't read too much about it.

I think Millwood is very possible. After the horrible season he had last year and as late as it is into free agency they could probably get him for an incentive laden contract. Might be worth it for Millwood, who would have the chance to pitch for a contender and get to work with Dave Duncan.

The Cardinals are reportedly saying they are not interested in Millwood, but that usually means they are interested. Still, should the kids fail to impress or if Ian Snell looks like the best option they may re-think their position.
