    Walter Johnson

Despite having great velocity Walter Johnson never pitched a Perfect Game or a no-hitter. That is something I saw interesting.

Hmmm...very random. Anyway, not surprising. Pitching a no-no/perfect game is generally more a result of luck than stuff. Having stuff helps, but look at the list of guys who have done it. It isn't a who's who of the HOF.

      Two words. Eric Milton.

Oh, and Pedro Martinez never had one, even though he pitched 9 perfect innings once.

Wasn't Eric Milton's against essentially a AAA club in the last week of the 1999 season? I just remember most of the lineup being September call ups.

Yep, the only veteran in the lineup was Orlando Palmeiro. The only other guy who became something in the Majors in the Anaheim lineup was a really young Troy Glaus.

Garza threw one agaisnt the Tigers last year, they had 5 rookie rookies in their lineup.

The thing about Johnson that amazes me is how he threw so hard slinging the ball how he did. Crazy.

Fangraphs had an article on "lousiest lineups in a no-hitter," pretty amusing.

Here's one from THT, Milton checked in at #5.

In a sequel to a column from last year, Chris looks at the most pathetic starting lineups ever held hitless.

Purely in terms of getting a hit, the most talented man in the lineup was Orlando Palmerio. That is an astoundingly pathetic sentence to write.

Not quite. Johnson threw a no-hitter July 1, 1920 against the Red Sox. Only baserunner reached because of an error.

And I feel like there was another one as well, but I'm probably mistaken.

i don't think Maddux, Glavine or Smoltz ever threw one either.
it really does require some amount of luck.
i think it was Branch Rickey who said luck was the residue of design

Jeez, an Indians pitcher that threw a No-No is on that list. Even when something great happens for Cleveland it's dubious.

The O's lineup Clay Buchholz no-hit was pretty bad (IIRC) other than a few guys, I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned.

It's a lot of luck. Verlander threw one in his 2nd season, but Felix Hernandez hasn't throw one after 5-6 years and he is hands down the best pitcher in the game. (imo)

Didn't Halladay just throw his first no hitter and perfect game last year? And he was lights out for a decade.

Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, Pedro Martinez, and Roger Clemens each never threw a no-hitter.

                              But,
Bud Smith, Jose Jimenez, Francisco Cordova, Chris Bosio, and Juan Nieves have each thrown no-hitters.
