    Re: Felix Hernandez

I must have missed something since i was last here, how did a thread about Felix Hernandez become a debate about who is the best 3B in Baseball?.

I will add that as great as Beltre was for the Sox last year i would take Zimmerman, Longoria, or David Wright over him if given the chance.

No, he isn't. Seattle would make that trade before the phone would stop ringing.

I may have descended a little into hyperbole there. But he's definitely worth more than any one of those guys by himself.
        NFL: Indianapolis Colts (12-6)
        NBA: Indiana Pacers (42-13)
        MLB: Cincinnati Reds (0-0)
        NHL: Detroit Red Wings (26-20-12)
NCAA: Purdue Boilermakers (FB: 1-11, BB: 15-12), Michigan Wolverines (FB: 7-6, BB: 19-7, H: 15-10-3)

This is from an otherwise pedestrian article on Yahoo about Felix Hernande:

This season...16 straight starts of at least seven innings and two or fewer runs...naximum 116 pitches this year, twice carving through eight innings in just 97 pitches.

Some great posts in this thread that were made when I started this thread three years ago.

Lincecum did fall off, as one poster said he would.

Felix elected to sign a massive extension to stay with the Mariners.

Kershaw and Felix are 1a and 1b like one poster predicted they would be. Both are running away with the Cy Young awards.

It's cool to look back. So glad the M's never traded Felix; he's the greatest Mariner of all-time in my mind, which is hard to admit because Junior is my childhood idol and I love Edgar. But to me, what Felix has done performance wise and his unfailing loyalty to the Mariners and the city of Seattle is what puts him over the top.

Yeah, seeing guys like Lincecum and Halladay, the former being a shell of his former self and the latter retired, name-dropped in a "best pitcher in baseball" conversation just 3 years ago shows you the fragility of pitchers and makes you appreciate the consistent greatness of someone like King Felix.

You Watch guys like Felix and Kershaw and you say "Man I hope they can stick around forever". We've been privileged to see guys like Maddux, Johnson and Glavine. Top of the line starters that were able to stay effective very late into their careers.

If you told me Halladay was going to be retired by 2014 back in 2011 I would've called you crazy. Who could have thought that a close to 9 WAR pitcher would flame out 2 seasons later?
