Yes, it's that you've gotten used to them. I can't hear a call from Waldman or Sterling without wanting to gouge my eardrums with a rusty screwdriver. How can a top flight organization like the Yanks have such a Mickey Mouse crew working for them? I even know Yankee fans who hate Sterling and Kay.

I can say, too, that the Mets announcers are far from homers. I've heard Keith and Ron rip players for boneheaded plays (and as a Mets fan, they've had ample opportunity) on many occasions.

Wow that was the first time I saw the Thome clip. That was HIGH-larious!

Since were on the topic of announcers. I always enjoy this call of the Marlins announcer flipping out lol.

If Fox-Mo says so… it's got to be true Let's be honest, Bob Davidson blew the call here.  The ball landed fair before and after crossing the third base bag.  Only a mircale of physics could have caused it to go foul around third base, which, according to MLB rules, would have indeed been ruled […]

It was this one, shame the video is no longer available. (ignorant short-sighted MLB forcing videos to get pulled off youtube, topic for another discussion)

          Found a working link, yay!

I've been looking all over for a working link to that. That was my favorite moment from last season. He crumples paper and walks away. Just beautiful.

You could really tell that one got the Hawk because I'm sure he had just spent a couple years showering love upon Thome.

I understand people don't like this guy... but now we're just getting extreme.

You can put it on da board owns so many homerun calls it ain't even funny. Get mad at him for putting his agenda over the game, but when those balls are going over the wall Hawk's call is fun.

People have the same reaction with John Mason of the Detroit Pistons. You either like it, or you hate it. With Hawk people just hate him so much by default, that they just lump everything together and ignore the fact the guy's homerun call is entertaining as hell.

Ah, I dunno...I've always thought it kind of dumb that the guy's jersey says Ichiro instead of Suzuki. It's fine to refer to him as Ichiro, but his last name is Suzuki. It would be like Chipper Jones jersey just saying "Chipper"...I think it's kind of dumb. Just my opinion though...

Yeah sure he's normally called Ichiro, but it's the guy's actual name so I don't see the big deal but that's me.

The surnames and the given names are in the opposite order in Japan. But then again, why bother researching it and let's just call someone else's culture "kind of dumb" instead?

                        Hate: White Sox

With the game yesterday on MLBN for the Rockies, I expected to hate the Mets commentators but I found them surprisingly pleasant and knowledgeable with no bias.

First off, I didn't call anyone's culture "dumb". Secondly, I know how they do it in Japan...Ichiro happens to be the ONLY player who does that here in the states. Does Hideki Matsui's jersey say "Hideki"? Did Hideo Nomo's jersey say "Hideo"? It doesn't matter and he can do what he wants, but it always been my opinion he did it more for "branding" than anything to do with culture. I am more about uniformity and would rather him have his name like everyone else. Again, it's just my opinion...

In Japan players have their last name on the back of their jersey. Only players that I know that had their first name on the back of their jersey is Ichiro and the Twins Tsuyoshi Nishioka who did it for one season.

Anyways I grew up listening to McCarver calling Met games on WWOR.

Yeah that was pretty interesting. That was back in the day when the color guy would do some innings on PBP. I thought McCarver was actually alright when calling the game! In those years he worked with Mets legendary broadcaster Ralph Kiner.
