I guy I like calling games is Gary Thorne, BUT I'd like to know what some Orioles fans think about him because to me he doesn't seem to really give you the impression he's for the home team. I don't like the home guy going on and on about the team but an example would be last night's walk off. Throne almost sounds like he's beside Orsillo calling the game for the Red Sox.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

I find Rick Sutcliffe's voice and apparent lack of any sense of humour painful to listen to

Gregg Zaun is hands down the worst color man to ever sit inside a booth.

He replaced Jerry Remy who was out for medical reasons when the Red Sox visited Toronto. Not only did he offer nothing every time he talked. But the biggest problem was he never shut up.

I was hoping Dennis Eckersley would fill in but he didn't make the road trip. He's not the best but if a game is dragging along he doesn't hold back about how much he wants to go home. Don't even get him going when there is a rain delay or extra innings.

He's a lot better in the studio but keep in mind that this is his first year doing work in the booth. He's actually not bad on the radio side which is where he's doing his apprenticeship under the steady hand of Jerry Howarth when Ashby goes to TV for Buck Martinez.

I'm going to guess he'll get better over time. He's a lot more deferential on the radio and does make some good points. Granted, I didn't see the Boston broadcast so I can't tell how bad he was but that was his first game on TV so he may have been over amped.

Maybe that was the case. Could have due to working with a new play by play and crew all together.

Chris Berman's play-by-play at the homerun derby is getting pretty tired. Some of that stuff was fresh and amusing in 1996, but now it just makes my head hurt.

Berman rarely calls any games any more though, so I can handle the HR Derby calls.

also, when the Yankees lose will he say "Put it on the right side."?
It's ridiculous. What was he thinking? Like, he's been an announcer for 15 years, or whatever it is, and he just decided this winter that saying that line after wins would add to his broadcasts? I don't get it.

Thinking about it, baseball announcers are pretty bad overall. I can think of multiple crews in NFL, college football and basketball, and NBA that I really like. In baseball, there's a bunch that bug me, and a bunch that are mehh. I can't think of many that I really like listening too.

                            1/2 of it is right.

Stoney wasn't fired, he just didn't accept a new contract with the team. The players were critical of Stone's comments too.
