Re: Jose Bautista is the best player in baseball
Right now, Bautista is the best player.
And I think many teams would take Bautista at what he's being paid right now over Pujols and his contract situation, where you'll have to give him a fortune after the year is finished.Comment

Yeah he's the best player in baseball right now... but he won't be once he gets off that juice. He's a cheater.Comment

Re: Jose Bautista is the best player in baseball
Thank you for that insightful post. I can't believe it only took this many replies before someone accused him of using steroids."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Jose Bautista is the best player in baseball
Minors:
2001: 5/220 ABs
2002: 14/438 ABs
2003: 5/188 ABs
2005: 24/496 ABs
Majors:
2006: 16/400 ABs
2007: 15/532 ABs
2008: 15/370 ABs
2009: 13/336 ABs
2010: 52/569 ABs
2011: 19/143 ABs
He had 24 in a full season in the minors, most power hitters don't break 20 in their minor league seasons yet they've got scouts raving over their power.
He was a part-time player because he had all sorts of problems. His stature is the same, his swing is a lot better, etc. Home run totals are no longer an indicator of steroids. He hit 80 more flyballs than he did in his previous career high where he had 532 ABs and more importantly, LCF in Toronto is not as deep as it is in Pittsburgh.
Making up home run totals is not proof.Comment

Re: Jose Bautista is the best player in baseball
LOL, i chuckled out loud at that one. TBH i was a little suspicous myself like a week ago, i actually remember Bau from his Pitt days and was like WTF. But as was mentioned earlier in the thread, power potential was always there but his swing was pretty meh, his swing is night and day different now. Thats mechanics and coaching and practice, not juice. His swing is pretty damn sweet simple as that. Watching vids and doing some research has taken most my suspicions away now.Yes I have 3 favorite baseball teams :P

Another thing I really, really liked from his approach is he's going to be very patient as well. Liked that I saw him wait for an inside pitch he could power. And he'll take pitches until he feels the count works in his favor.
He simply gets it. It took a while, but it is his prime years and it was about time he figured it out.
edit: Rather than say he's going for a home run every time, it's probably more accurate to say he wants to make sure he puts on solid contact every single time. I know that's preached in baseball, but a lot of guys don't really understand the virtue of waiting for your pitch, the right count and swinging hard. Bautista knows his power comes on inside pitches he can turn on. He doesn't waste time swinging at anything else unless necessary. I'm surprised pitchers haven't started pounding the outside corner on him. Maybe they have, though."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Jose Bautista is the best player in baseball
It really is amazing what a player can do when they swing for the fences every single time. Bautista is going for a home run every swing. Obviously haven't had the chance to watch his at-bats, but saw a bit more against the Yankees and even with 2 strikes, he's waiting to uncoil on an inside pitch.
