Haha I'm well aware of the sacrifice fly situation, but I was actually referring to an instance with, say, runners on the corners and the runner on third scores on a fly out. The only reason I really questioned sacrifice fly is because, unlike sacrifice bunting, you're not literally giving up your entire plate appearance simply to move a runner over because a fly ball isn't an ultimate control situation (and can lead to more or less as a result of a fly ball), which is why it affects your on-base percentage when a sacrifice bunt does not.
The only reason I asked about the fielder's choice was because you said it only counts for official at-bats where you (the batter-runner) doesn't reach base, which is not the proper description for a fielder's choice where another runner is retired. And you also have to consider that not all fielder's choice plays actually do retire a runner, and neither would reaching base on an error (for the most part). Heck, neither would a dropped third strike.
Okay, so let's run it down then. Do I have these resulting plays that will increase your individual LOB correct? (check the bold terms)
Ground out
Fly out
Strike out
Sacrifice bunt
Sacrifice fly
Ground into double/triple play
Reach on error
Fielder's choice
Fielder's choice (everybody safe)
Batter interference
Yeah, I'm already tracking certain splits like how batters do in certain counts and with certain runners on (as well as RISP). I just needed to find out which of these would affect this statistic as well though. I think I should watch a game with a sacrifice fly or fielder's choice and see what happens to their LOB number.
