I think the M's have done a great job in adding some much needed offense.

Losing two good starters hurts, but we have so much pitching talent on the farm and this team needed offense in a huge way.

Francisco Martinez, 3B - Who knows how this 20-year-old will pan out, but he's pretty intriguing. Hitting .282 in AA.

Trading Bedard was a must and getting Trayvon Robinson (23, .293 BA, 26 HR, 71 RBI in AAA) and Chih-Hsien Chiang (23, .338, 18 HR, 76 RBI) for him is nice.

Potential impact bats - that's what we need.

Time will tell, but it looks like Jack Z and the M's are doing pretty well at the deadline.

Cardinals made some good moves got a good sp improved the bullpen with mcclellan going to the pen and got furcal to help the middle infield depth all while not trading any great prospects.

Sure they traded Rasmsu but he didnt want to be in stl and obviously relies on his dad for everything.

Twins didn't do anything. I'm a little upset we didn't try to get anything for Kubel or Cuddyer.

Trayvon is a beast, he needs to cut down on the K's, but other than that, he is good to go. His power numbers will be skewed in Safeco but I think he will be a good bat at the top of the lineup.

He was a centerfielder here, but hopefully this means they are committed to locking up Kemp.

            Nice.

He immediately enters into our top 10 prospects.

Hopefully the catcher you guys got in the deal from Boston works out, by all accounts he seems like a solid player who has overachieved with the bat.

I'm not thrilled with Bedard either, but in Theo's apparent quest to acquire an injury prone pitcher, he's a better pickup than Harden at least. I'm still trying to figure out why the Dodgers got involved though.

Bavasi's last failure, aka Josh Fields, is officially gone from Seattle. Woooo!

When he has been healthy this year, Bedard has been an absolute beast. Basically, the pitcher Seattle expected when they traded away Tacoma for him.

That's the thing. I really think if Bedard had been as healthy as Cliff Lee, they would have similar statistical results. Bedard's stuff is as good as any pitcher in the league.

If he stays healthy, Boston got an elite arm for the stretch run and the playoffs.

                  Big if, though.

I know I'm late, but about damn time the Padres did something. Three weeks worth of tweeter fluff for that. I'm alright with what they got for Adams and apparently they tried waiting until the last minute to drive up the price (and of course it almost bit them in the *** when the Rangers acquired Uehara, fortunately they weren't done yet). I'm guessing they'll probably just get cash for Ludwick.

Couldn't deal Harang or Qualls and they still have to decide whether to keep Bell or take the picks (that might not even be there depending on the new CBA). I think some want the picks, but something tells me they should re-sign Heath Bell if they can.

Re: 2011 MLB Trade Deadline Thread

I like Bedard slightly better than Rich Harden who the Sox tried to get yesterday, at least in the health department. 22-17 against AL East apponents in his career isn't great but it's not terrible either. Two month rental anyway as he is likely to re-sign with Seattle next winter

I think the Rangers come away as the big winners at the deadline in the AL. Adams and Uehara to go with Neftali Feliz at the back of the bullpen basically means you are now playing a 6 inning game against them.
It will be interesting to see how Ubaldo does for Cleveland but that may be a better move for next year than this since they did not address their need for offense.

Phillies and Giants are the big winners in the NL both picking up impact bats for the stretch.

Kind of surprised the Yankees and Angels did nothing. We know the Astros asked the Yankees to pick up all of Wandy Rodriguez' remaining salary and i doubt anyone blames them for not wanting to.

Harang and Qualls could be waiver deals next month.

Heath Bell has already told the Padres that he would sign a below market deal to stay in San Diego next winter. After trading Adams it didn't seem the Padres really wanted to Bell because they had to have gotten some decent offers.

The Twins hope to re-sign Cuddyer over the winter and value his versatility too much to trade him if they were not going to get value for him. Kubel could still be dealt in august. While injuries have slowed him down his numbers are way down from last year and who knows what the asking price was.

The problem with the Twins is that they are a team who was asking for Drew Storen and other players in a deal for Denard Span. Not to knock Span but he is a leadoff hitter with 15 RBI's, more strikeouts than walks, and only 4 SB's. Twins concept of fair value may be a little skewed at the moment because i don't think anyone was going to give up multiple players for any of these guys, and since they all still wear Twin uniforms i'm not the only one who thought so.

I would throw in the Braves as a big winner. Didn't have to give up one of their prize arms and filled a huge hole in their lineup with one of the best lead-off CF's in the game.

True. The Jordan Schafer era in Atlanta never seemed destined to be. Bourn is a very good defensive Outfielder as well and maybe being able to wreack havok on the basebaths will help wake the Braves bats up a bit. Bourn is probably the best base-stealer the Braves have had since Otis Nixon.

Unbelievable how much tearing down my 'Stros are doing. A quick look at the 25 man roster, and I really think we're trying to be the Indians from "Major league"

Heard on sports radio...."the Astros are the best double A team in the majors."
