We need a shake up for sure, new players AND new manager. I'd like to see Lou Pinella in the clubhouse. Him, Torre, and Valentine are the only ones I would really like to see. Everyone else would be "eh" for me.

No, can you say weak divisions?
With a balanced schedule, the NL Central would have looked a lot better, but you had 3(sometimes) good teams pounding each other, and some damage to be done by Milwaukee and Cincy.
Atlanta did have a very tough division, or so it seemed. maybe Philly and Montreal weren't all that great either.
SanFran has it made. . . who can stop them in teh West? no one. Colorado? San Diego? LA? hardly. Arizona, nope, suffer from raiders syndrome.

Dude, you're so far off here

The NL Central has 3 horrible teams- Cincy, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh
the Cards and Astros have basically no pitching (w/o Oswalt)

Everybody knows the AL and NL central are the worst divisions- period.

The NL west included the best pitching staff in the Dodgers, AZ who won the series 2 yrs ago with basically the same team, Colorado had the best home record and stayed in the Wild Card hunt 'till Sept, and by the end of the season the Padres had one of the best lineups in the league.

Dude, if the think the Giants are in a weak division you're high

There's a lot to be said for teams that "back into" the play-offs, or idly cruise into them. I think the Marlins victory over the Giants is purely heart and desire on the Marlins' part. They just seemed to refuse to be denied.

As for the Cubs, the pitching just overwhelmed the Braves... friggen' Mark Prior ain't no joke! And Kerry's rep for being inconsistant surely wasn't represented in the games he pitched, that's for sure.

I agree. Maybe you need to just give credit where credit is due. The Marlins have had the best record in baseball since Mid May. The Cubs pitching is growing up before our eyes and the additions of the Pittsburgh guys made this team more consistent offensively. During the regular season, the Cubs also had to trot a guy like Estes out to the mound every 5th day. In the post season they can stick with their bread and butter. Good pitching beats good hitting plain and simple.

This goes right back to my point.
Teams like the Giants are built for the long haul of a 162 game season, not a short series.

In the post season a team with 2 stud pitchers and 3 crapy pitchers will go further than a team with 1 stud pitcher and 4 good pitchers.

Sure it wouldn't hurt getting some youth. But Bobby Cox as a manager is just fine....Torre is the only guy I would like to see in a Braves uni.....maybe Valentine...our GM Schuerholz is realizing the youth issue and calling up more guys from Triple AAA....in my opinion, I think we should put Chipper back at third, and get a young outfielder like Rocco Baldelli or something....and about the fire in the belly, I think that will start to come b/c the Marlins are turning into a good team so I think '04 should be an interesting season in the NL East.
