It wasn't a fan who ran onto the field, it was a groundskeeper who was working in the bull-pen.

      Re: Yankees vs Redsox Thread

If Pedro had ran away from Zimmer, he'd be the biggest laughingstock of baseball. They'd have a parade in NY with Zim riding on a firetruck. They'd proclaim what a punk Pedro is that a 72 year old man scared him away. Sportstalk radio would be filled with venom about what kind of sissy Pedro was. He did the absolute right thing, he defended himself and taught an old man a lesson about sitting in the dugout. Old men from here on out will know that if they charge the opposing team's pitcher/or any other player that they risk being thrown to the ground and having that replayed on the news/sportscenter over and over again. He put his own health at risk, and he had bad intentions to boot. If he had connected with Pedro, he probably would have continued to beat on him until pulled off.

I'll go as far as to say that if a player's wife had run onto the field flailing away, that Pedro would have every right to do the same to her. People need to understand that they cannot charge players on the field and be defended. The only thing Zimmer was right about was his apology.

You don't sidestep by putting both your hands on a person's head and throwing him on the ground. But, hey, Zim did the right thing by apologizing on the besides of everyone, and felt embarrased for his actions. Obviously, this speaks of what kind of a man he is.

zimmer shouldnt have come out of the dugout and he swung first from the videos and who knows maybe he came out of the dugout yelling "I'm gonna kick your *** pedro" and Pedro self defended himself

Yeah, God knows he could outrun Zimmer and just had to throw him down....

C'mon. NO WAY any ballplayer is going to turn around and run from a 73 year old man. He'd never hear the end of it. He did what was right. He stood there and pushed Zimmer aside. I'd do the same exact thing. This isn't Pedro's fault. It's Zimmer's fault for coming out of the dugout and trying to attack a man at his age.

he kinda did more than push a man away - Pedro pulls these "antics" & the league doesn't do anything about it - it's one thing to throw inside - totally another to throw at someone's head - I'm glad that he got a $50,000 fine from MLB..
