      Reyes?

He bunted for a single in his first AB and then asked to be removed from the game (for a pinch runner, I beleive) to preserve his batting average lead.

He basically did the exact opposite of what Ted WIlliams did the last day of the season when he was at .400 entering the last day of the season. Could have taken the day off and coasted to the end at .400, but played and finished at .406.

Braun still had a chance with the later game, if he had gotten 3 hits, he could have taken the lead back over, which would have been just perfect, but unfortunately he went 0 for.

      On a few other notes:

Kemp needed only 8 more hits over the course of the entire season to have been the first triple crown winner in over 40 years

Pujols finished 1 RBI shy of 100 and 1 point shy of hitting .300 ending his streak of 10 straight .300/30/100 seasons.

The Reyes thing doesn't really bother me one bit. What do you all want, an asterisk by his .337? He doesn't really have any obligation to fulfill except appear at the plate 3.1 times per game, minimum. Besides, it's unfair to rank him up against one of the greats, just because you can do it. What's next, saying he can't bunt for hits anymore either?

Maybe I'm the only one who feels that way. This is looking at "Player A vs. Player B," by the way. I have nothing for Reyes or against Braun. In fact, it's really more the other way around.

There's no question it was a b---- move Jose Reyes made yesterday. He should've played the entire game with his slim batting average lead on the line and preserved it the right way like Miguel Cabrera had done.

I just see it as taking the easy way out. I see it the same in the NBA as players that will intentionally miss a shot (one even tried to take a shot at others teams basket) to get a rebound to get a triple double. Or what if a pitcher was sitting on 19 wins in a blow out game and the coach put him in with 2 outs in the 4th to be the pitcher on record to get the Win?

To me, it 100% says, I am playing this game strictly for the statistics and not for anything else. Why else would he play that game at all on that day?

To me, it's just a crappy way to win a batting title. Instead of being in there to the end like I normally would on any other given day, I'll take my hit and leave early.

I would think that as a guy who prides himself on playing hard and playing the game the right way, this would strike you as something completely opposite. There are not a lot of guys that have won batting titles by narrow margins that would have ever even considered something like that, IMO. No way Tony Gwynn or Wade Boggs or George Brett, etc. would have laid down this way.

And I'm not comparing his career against Ted Williams, I'm just comparing the situation and the reaction of the players. And for what it's worth, I have no problem with the bunt for a hit...if it was David Ortiz needing one more hit for the crown and he bunted for a hit, then maybe

I just can't see this as a player playing for nothing but the statistical accomplishment.

Willie Wilson did the same thing in 1982. He sat out the last game to preserve his slim lead over Robin Yount.

Yount went 4 for 5 with a HR and still lost out to Wilson.

              Hard to debate this article.

Pretty much sums it up for me. Luckily, I think there are only a handful of guys who would do the same thing in his situation.

You're expecting Jose Reyes to show character?

Yeah these situations have happened before but the way Reyes blabbed in the media about having a party to boo Braun etc etc was really classless and shows what an immature little punk he is.

In fact I remember one year Robbie Alomar sat out the finale after achieving a .300 BA.

Maybe I'm the only one who feels that way. This is looking at "Player A vs. Player B," by the way. I have nothing for Reyes or against Braun. In fact, it's really more the other way around.
I was afraid to say it, based on the reactions in here, but I don't see what's so bad about what Reyes did. It didn't cost anybody the game, and he might never have the opportunity to win the batting title again. He gets to put his name in the record books forever. Saying that he was rooting against Braun? He's just being honest, I mean obviously the move was done so that he could win the title, so what's he supposed to say? "good luck Braun I hope you make me look like an idiot"?

edit: even if I get bashed for my view, I stand by it!
