Re: August 30th is strike date.........

This is a topic that i could talk about for hours. First of all i hate people who say they will never go to a game again... and even worse are the people who say that they will never WATCH a game again. I also hate people who say they are on the owners side because the players are overpaid and premadonnas. I also hate people who say they are on the player's side because the owners are doctoring their books and trying to save some money by not ponying up the dough to the players. I am just about sick of hearing people siding with one side or the other on this topic. There are actually three sides to this topic. I am for that side. It is THE GAME. In this labor situation i want the results to be what is ultimately in the best interest of the game for the future. I could care less if they shut down this season as long as they are doing it in order to make the game better. I also wouldn't want them to jump to an agreement quickly in order to prevent a work stoppage just to be able to play in September 11. I think that although baseball did a great deal to help the healing process last year by giving the country something positive to focus on, i believe that there is less of a need for that this year. I don't want there to be an ineffective agreement for the sake of the moral of the country. Players and owners alike have to admit that there are serious financial problems in the game today that have led to the competitive imbalance. This is a problem that can only be resloved by coming together at the collective bargaining table and pounding out a plan that will at least make to incline the small market teams have to climb a hill instead of a mountain. Of course a luxury tax and increased revenue sharing will level the competition some but it will not lead to mass parody and the apocolypse as the players must believe. And don't even get me started on drug testing. They agreed a few weeks ago to HAVE drug testing. This is a shock to me. The player are going to LET the owners test them for substances that are illegal in this country. WOW they are conceeding so much. The owners however need to also realize a few things. They can't just go in and insist that the players take a huge paycut. It is their own fault that the players are getting paid this much in the first place. They continue to give in the these superagents that convince them their washed up 37 year old middle reliever is worth $3.5 million a year. The numbers in baseball are so out of wack that it isn't even funny. The only way to fix it might be to shut this thing down, call it a season and get down to business seriously this winter. One thing will have to happen though. Both sides will have to see their faults and see the larger issue here... the White Elephant in the room, THE GAME. I hope and pray for baseball's sake that THE GAME will win these negotiations.

    Wow i feel much better.

I agree with Heelfan. The ticket prices are going through the roof.

oh If I only had 250 million then I could sit and play games all day and yet still never have to work again, and I could strike, yeah, that would be the life

I feel pretty numb and indifferent about it as well. I really don't care if the playoffs and world series gets cancelled. With college and NFL football starting, baseball is the farthest thing from my mind.

Well, looks like they've hit a snag in the negotiations. Hope they get this settled, or I'll be pretty pissed off. My fantasy team is finally making its run. We've pulled to within 1.5 games of the lead from 5th place a few weeks ago.
