Does anyone else realize that even if the fan didn't interfere the Cub's still would've lost??? What you are all missing is Gonzalez's error. THAT was the biggest blunder in that game. Suppose Alou makes the catch and Gonzalez still makes an error. Chances are the Marlins still score all those runs. Now if Alou makes the catch and Gonzalez fields the ball and gets an out, the Cubs walk away with a 3-1 lead.

The fan is unjustly an easy scapegoat. Alex Gonzalez is the real issue...

I agree that Gonzalez' error hurt the Cubs more than the fan in the stands. That's because there were no outside forces affecting Gonzalez' play. I don't believe by rule it was fan interference, but the fan definitely interfered with what I believe would've been a catch by Alou. But, that's something Alou can't control. Gonzalez must field that ball.

That being said, I disagree with your assessment that the Cubs would've lost unless both plays were made. If either of those plays are made, the dynamic of the game completely changes. Nobody knows what would've happened.

If Alou makes the catch, the Cubs possibly give up zero runs.

If Gonzalez fields the ball correctly, barring he makes a throwing error, there are two outs, and the Cubs quite possibly could've got out of the inning tied or perhaps even still with the lead. It was 3-1 at that point, and there would've been two outs, with the tying run on first base (assuming we don't turn the double play, which I don't think we would have) instead of second base.

All I'm trying to say is you don't know for sure the Marlins would've continued their comeback. But I gotta give them their props. The Marlins NEVER quit. I like that in a team. Too bad there's absolutely no way I will watch a Yankees (assuming they wrap things up in NY, which I think they can) vs. Marlins WS.

Agreed. I know I didn't say as such, but that was just my opinion. The Marlins were ripping the ball that inning and I think both plays deflated the Cubs more than anything. I just felt that the fan interference was being used as a scapegoat. Gonzalez's error was huge and the Marlins catching fire didn't help either...

You guys understand that the cubs have one more game. Half the cubs fans that post in here are talking about this stupid curse like they have already lost. Maybee thats why they have lost for all these years because the fans expect it. Nut up and root for your team. Im not a Cubs fan but I guess Im the only one who thinks they have a great chance with Wood on the mound in game 7. Go Cubbies!!!!!

I'm sure most would do as you said but then again the Cubs have faced this situation before in 1984 and they folded up like a cheap suitcase. Older Cubs fans that saw that series must be VERY worried.

I am going to root for my Cubbies.. but you have to understand the devastion that most Cubs fans felt initially after the game!

From almost being in celebration mode.. to a total lost in a matter of minutes..... is really hard to take..

I like our chances.. but the momentum is fully on the Marlins side. Kerry has to pitch well... for at least 8 innings.

I was 11 years old and watched the 1984 collapse of the Cubs! Through hearing stories of past collapses... need I say 1969 great collapse.. We all embody this bad karma that follows the Cubs!
                              Go Cubs!

                                Go Cubs!
