I'm truly at a loss for words.

Up three to one in the series, and we have Zambrano, Prior, and Wood going. Ya gotta like the chances of the Cubs winning at least one of those games, right??

Nope. Because this is the Cubs. An organization that has made a tradition out of losing. It is disheartening to be a Cubs fan. I'm so sick of losing. You'd figure after all these years of futility, I'd be used to it. But I'm not. I want to see this team succeed. I want to know the jubliation that a fan of a World Series Championship team feels.

Anyway ... I'll stick by statements I made earlier, in that I'm proud of how far the Cubs got this year. I truly didn't expect them to make it into the playoffs, let alone have a shot at seeing a World Series. And, this is great playoff/big game experience for the Cub pitching staff. But to be honest, I'd rather have seen the Cubs get swept than have to go through this ... again. This complete implosion just leaves an that empty feeling in the bottom of my stomach.

I truly think we'll see the Cubs back in the playoffs very soon. But, heck, I thought we'd win one of the last three games too ... so that goes to show what I know ...

Kudos to the Marlins. They earned it. Too bad, I don't care for the team, or really any of the teams left in the playoffs.

Good Luck to all the fans of the Red Sox, Yankees, & Marlins.

And to all the people who are simply fans of baseball ... enjoy the rest of the season. Normally, I'd be right there with ya, but I think I'm gonna take my Cubs' collapse, and call it a season.

I guess I wasn't at such a loss for words ...

The Marlins earned this pennant. I mean, never in my life have I seen so many clutch hits by one team over a 7-game series. And to make things worse, it always seemed like the biggest hits came with 2 strikes on the Marlins....the Cubs pitchers didn't lose this series. They made some mistakes, but the Marlins just hit the crap out of the ball. My hats off to them....but for any fan who's dogging my Cubs and/or trying to rub it in, you can go to Hell, b/c quite frankly, to root against the Cubs is pretty low IMO.

I'm sorry but the reason why it's taken the Cubs so long to get a taste for the World Series is because the Tribune company is a tight fisted organization that doesn't want to give money for their baseball club. This year was different tho as they actually YOU KNOW spent money.

In many ways the Cubs are the baseball equivalent of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Both franchises know they'll always have fans coming to see them even when they don't spend money on the right players etc etc.

I'm still bitter about my Indians losing the World Series to a cheap quick fix franchise in 1997. I can't imagine how bad it is for the Cubs with this. If anything I want to see a salary cap more than ever. You had fresh teams in the NLCS but the same old powers in the ALCS. You know when it's time for the new Marlins owner to pay the players, the same thing will happen that happened last time. A lack of a salary cap is why the Marlins have a good team then suck completely, it's why the Cubs have taken so long to get a taste of getting to the World Series, and why the Yankees are always the favorites. I think this has a lot to do with why football has overtaken baseball as America's top sport.

I also would like a salary cap, but you can't fault this Marlins team. The last one was a sham but this one is legit, they've built this team the right way. And you can't get mad if they don't win next year. Under the system now, unless you are one of the few big market teams with deep pockets you gotta take your shot at a championship when it comes. Even if you can't keep some of the guys. But this Marlin team won't be dismantled like last time, that was the product of a Jackass owner who wanted in and then got the hell out.

Yeah I do agree that you gotta love that speed at the top of the Marlins' order. Castillo is where my question of paying the players starts. He's going to be a free agent. What makes tonight's game so shocking is that Kerry Wood hit a freaking home run. That seemed like the ultimate sign that the baseball gods were on the Cubs' side. The Marlins never have lost a postseason series -- that's crazy! I'm starting to believe that theory that Chicago got all the help it ever will when God whispered Sam Bowie into the ears of the Portland Trailblazers.
After more than eight years on here, I finally figured out how to edit my time zone!

I'm actually happy that the Marlins won.

I'm not a die hard Marlins fan or anything, but I've been watching this team pretty closely since opening day because their lineup and pitching rotation really impressed me(on paper).

They have excellent speed on the top of the order, power in the middle, and just solid hitters towards the end. And rotation is quite underrated in my opinion, alot of young, strong arms that all have a good shot at success in baseball.

I was really surprised when they started the season with such a poor record, I thought they would be a surprise team to contend for the NL East. Then when the problems with pitching injuries and such, it seemed like coaching was the problem. Sure enough. Torborg out, McKeon in, and this team looks like one of the most fundamentally sound team in baseball...something they should have been from the start.

Anyways, none of what's happened with the Marlins has surprised me. I'm not going to say they're going to win the World Series, but for all of you saying that it is going to be a snoozefest, don't be so sure. If they play anything like they have this postseason, it should be one of the better World Series' to watch. They seem to find a way to make almost every game entertaining and close, it's like you can never count them out.

You know Bud ain't happy though, Marlins don't get ratings when it comes to casual fans, lol.

At any rate, I'm happy for the Marlins. They played hard and EARNED the NL Pennant. I'm rooting for them to win it all...and hopefully defend the title better than our most recent champs.

As for the Cubs, they'll be back. With that rotation and that lineup, there's no doubt about it. Just hopefully that curse won't be back with them.
