Barry Larkin should have been in before this, but well deserved none-the-less. Bagwell should have been in this time, but I guess everybody's going to be "punished" for some reason.

It's sad to see Juan Gonzalez and Ruben Sierra being pushed off the ballot as they are some of my favorite Rangers. They'll have to settle for the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame.

Well-deserved for Larkin. Nice to see him get in.

Here's how basically every analyist is covering this, and it irks me a bit.

"Barry Larkin has been inducted to the Hall of Fame. *Clip of Barry Larkin being classy Barry Larkin* Oh, btw, Ron Santo was voted in posthumously by the Vets Comittee. BUT ZOMG BARRY BONDS AND ROGER CLEMENS ARE ON THE BALLOT NEXT YEAR! WE CAN'T WAIT TO WRING OUR HANDS AND PONTIFICATE OVER THIS!"

Congrats to Larkin. He was my first favorite baseball player and it was a pleasure to watch him year after year in Cincinnati.

Here's a spoiler: Position matters a lot. If Bernie was an quality defensive SS with those offensive numbers, he'd be going to the HoF as well.

You're right. I should have said "ESPN analyst". I'm so swamped at work the only exposure I've gotten so far is last night/this morning on sports radio. Haven't really gotten into reading any articles yet.

It was on MLB Network as well. And even on the MLB site right next to the Larkin story.

Also you forgot Sammy is on the list for next year as well
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

But it shouldn't matter the position that he played. Bernie Williams was a better player than Barry Larkin. He put up better stats in nearly every offensive category, Won more Gold Gloves,He was one of the main reasons the Yankees won the 4 titles and put up fantastic postseason numbers. He did this all in 4 less seasons than Barry Larkin did but just because Bernie plays center field was one of the main reason's he did not get in.

That's not how it works, though. Offence from SS is more rare and therefore more valuable. Larkin won nine Silver Sluggers to Bernie's one. If GMs were given the choice of a SS or CF with roughly equal defensive prowess and similar offensive numbers, they'll take the SS 100% of the time.

There are lots of players with better raw offensive numbers than Larkin or Williams who will never make the Hall. You're judged how you stack up to other players at your position, otherwise they'd have to rename it The Hall of First Basemen and Corner Outfielders. Larry Walker had more Gold Gloves than Bernie, was a better baserunner, and even his non-Coors offensive stats are better than Williams. But he's not getting a sniff, either.

On the other hand, I'm sure you're pleased that Jorge Posada likely will make the Hall of Fame someday because his offensive numbers are outstanding by catcher standards.
