I'm proud to say that I was in attendance when Gary was inducted in to the Mets Hall of Fame.

Just reinforces that you GOTTA live every day to the fullest. 57 is way too young.
Thanks for the Amazing memories, Kid!

RIP, 57 is way too young to go

As important as Carter was to the '86 Mets you can arguably say that he meant as much or more to the Expos in his tenure there. He may not have gotten along with everybody in the clubhouse but he was more loved nationally throughout Canada than Wayne Gretzky and that's saying something as his face and image was plastered all over the place.

He truly was one of the most beloved athletes to play in Canada that's not Canadian born and he was as much an ambassador to all things Expos as he was one of the very few people who truly bled Expos colors.

He'll be missed. God Bless his family.

Fifty-seven is way too young to pass on like this. I never really had a chance to see him live, but I know how important he is to Canadian Baseball. You will be missed Mr. Carter.

Re: Gary Carter dies at 57.

I just finished reading some stories about Carter on SI and "Big League Stew".
I never realized how much teammates disliked him - and for being a happy go-lucky guy.
But reading stories about the '86 Mets, it's no wonder he didn't fit in.

RIP Carter. You were one of my favourite players growing up.

Have to say this is hitting me a little hard right now..seeing that also my grandfather was discovered to have Stage 4 cancer.. I still remember going to Mets games back in 85 and just watching him crank a few out of Shea..thanks to that, I began my affinity to the Mets.. Pretty cool later on to see him manage a local independent team near me.. I wish a lot of today's athletes played the game the way he did-- with heart, passion, and respect.. Guess I am also sad that a part of my childhood just came to an end... Heaven gained one heck of a catcher... RIP Kid..

Yeah, he was an outcast in some ways, but pretty much every guy that ripped him back in the day has said they were wrong for giving him grief and have tried to live their lives like Carter did all the time.

                      He was the real deal.

Really? That's cool that some of them realized the error of their ways.

Hearing that story about how another of Carter's teammates was lambasted for bringing his wife to the bar was kind of funny. Carter said he'd love to take his wife to every road trip if it was allowed.
I guess with that hard-partying group, that's not going to make you the most popular guy on the team, hahaha.
