Re: Vina\'s option not picked up by the Cardinals
pol, I've re-read my post and think I know where people are getting me wrong. I don't think Hart is the answer. However, if Hart played second and batted like 8th AND we got rid of either Drew or Edmonds and replaced them with someone who can hit leadoff, then Hart would do well, as the replacement to Vina at second.
You need solid d play at second. Hart gives you that. Sure he's not a gold glover, but there's only one each year and that doesn't guarantee a WS.
But, just to clarify. IMO. Hart as second basemen and leadoff? No thank you. Hart as second baseman and seven or eight hitter? Good move since it frees up cash for pitching.Comment

Just curious, why are you so hot to deal Edmonds? I can understand wanting to move Drew after his yearly injury problems, but Edmonds? The guy may not play every day, but he puts up NUMBERS.Comment

I'm not 'hot to deal Edmonds'. I love the guy. But fact is, Fernando Vina, Tina Martinez and either Jim Edmonds or J.D. Drew are gone. And with Drew's salary much lower than Edmonds (and being much younger) the Cardinals would rather deal Edmonds (mainly due to salary) than Drew.
This isn't my idea. I'm just repeating what's been reported in the St. Louis paper.Comment

Re: Vina\'s option not picked up by the Cardinals
The only reason Vina wasn't picked up again is because he was due around a $4.5 Million for next year. And that's alot to give to a guy who hasn't exactly produced in the final years of his contract. I don't think Hart will be the everyday 2B though. Why should pay Vina 4.5 million when they have Cairo and Hart who can hold that position splitting time? This was a good move by the Cards. I hope Vina ends up somewhere good though.Comment
