Oh look, the Orioles are back in first place.

    What's that?

So is the rest of the AL East, except for Boston.

Pujols has 4 RBI. That ranks tied for 185th in MLB. He has 2 fewer RBI than B.J. Upton, who was activated on Friday.

April is dirty air. Is a player just in a slump that we wouldn't spend five seconds discussing if it happened in July? What's a trend and what's small-sample-size fluke?

Could be worse, at least we got to watch them win three games.

LaHair continues to torment the Cards today with a solo shot off Lynn. 3 HR's this season, all against St. Louis.

Also....what a skid Pujols has hit...surely this will all be forgotten when he once again starts mashing, but he is 0 for his last 15 and has not driven in a run since April 15th.
Pujols' O-Swing% is 42.2%. His career average is 21.7%. It seems like opposing pitchers have picked up on that, and aren't throwing anything close to the zone. If he starts laying off the pitches out of the zone, he'll go back to normal pretty soon.

Freese takes a Volstad sinker off the plate inside over the wall. 4-1 Cards.

Its also just bad luck. His LD/BABIP difference is only .016. That doesn't explain his power shortage, but when he's putting the ball in play he is hitting it more squarely than he ever has in his career. He'll bounce back.

Marmol in the mop-up role with the Cubs down 4 in the 9th. Retires the side only giving up an infield single.

Cards win 5-1, and avoid the sweep.

So it would seem he is pressing to make it work @ the plate by swinging at so many more pitches out of the zone.
