Re: Game Discussion Thread: 4/30 - 5/6
Awful news for Mo...a torn ACL and meniscus. His knee is wrecked and he didn't look like a guy who is going to come back (who knows at this point). Felt so bad for him watching that interview...his comment about letting the team down was just typical Mo. Great player, greater man."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Hate to see his career end like that on a freak accident if that's it. The last and only 42 that deserves to be put up next to Jackie's at a park.Comment

If one more Royal gets thrown out trying to steal third base, I'm going to kill someone.
And man, I feel so bad for Mariano. Hate the Yanks, but what a sad way for it to end (if he can't/doesn't come back) for a dude who is a living legend.Ryan Spencer

I despise the Yankees, but Mo's easily the greatest closer of all time. Tough to see him go out like this. Hopefully he decides to make a comeback.Comment

Re: Game Discussion Thread: 4/30 - 5/6
I hate the Yankees with all my heart but Mariano Rivera is one of the classiest ballplayers EVER IMO. If this is the way his career ends then it is one of the most disheartening and sad endings to a HOF career.
I hope he can make the comeback but something tells me he won't risk it as his legacy is firmly in place.
Kinda puts a damper on my being happy the Jays won tonight.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Game Discussion Thread: 4/30 - 5/6
This is a weird, cherry picking kind of stat. Hoffman had 552 saves with San Diego alone but because he spent two seasons in Milwaukee at the end of his career it completely discredits him.Comment

Re: Game Discussion Thread: 4/30 - 5/6
Don't get me wrong, I think Rivera is the greatest relief pitcher in the history of the game, but I simply cannot call the way his career ended "sad" or "tragic" compared to a guy like Clemente.
Rivera - made over 140 million dollars in his career. Got to play 18 seasons relatively injury free and was going to retire this year anyway. Doesn't have to rush through therapy and can take the ACL injury recovery time slow. Still has NINE FIGURES in the bank to live off of and support his family for many generations in the future.
Clemente - hardly made a million dollars during his entire career. Was plagued with injuries in the last few years of his career but still could have played a few more seasons. Was one of the most charitable athletes that ever lived and LOST HIS LIFE in a plane crash on the way to help the victims of an earthquake in Nicaragua.
One of these is tragic and the other is just bad luck.Comment

Re: Game Discussion Thread: 4/30 - 5/6
I highly doubt it. But sportswriters have been trying to say he's too old for a few years now, so if there was anyone that would come back from major knee surgery at 42, it could be him.
I'm not sure why he'd want to though. Like 55 said, he can take his time recovering and spend time with his family.Comment

Hoffman would have never qualified because he got two saves with the Marlins before he was traded to San Diego.Comment
