That's technically true but you rarely see the letters high strike call anymore. I did see the highlight of it on youtube and wow did Lawrie ever go off! He's probably going to be suspended 4-5 games to me.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Looks high, but assuming he did a bit of the squatting down that hitters like to do when they take a high pitch, it probably wasn't quite as high as it appears.
I'd give him at least a dozen games, that **** is way beyond acceptable.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

If Lawrie didn't act like a little girl and attempt to show up the umpire on the 3-1 pitch (he was halfway to first base before the ball was in Molina's glove and then gave the ump a dirty look on his slow walk back to the plate) then he probably wouldn't have been rung up in the manner that he was on the 3-2 pitch.
Let's not forget Lawrie acting like a tough guy and staring down Price earlier after getting hit below the knee on an 0-2 pitch with no outs in the inning. Dude is just a young, immature kid at this point and needs to be taught a lesson. Lucky for him, Farny wasn't out there.Comment

Both 3-1 and 3-2 were freakin' atrocious.
Lord help me if baseball turns into basketball with the corrupt officiating.
At least Lawrie didn't spit on him.Comment

Maybe it's just me, but I love it when players throw fits like that. I love it when they charge the mound, when benches clear, when helmets are thrown, all of it. I like seeing a spark in players. When it becomes a habit, ala Zambrano, it's annoying, but someone randomly exploding is excellent.Kansas City Royals | FC Barcelona | New Orleans Pelicans

- pitch is six inches off the plate
- "might have been a ball"
Are you sure you watch baseball? That pitch was so far off any MLB hitter would start running down to first because it would take a moron to call it a strikeLast edited by theaub; 05-16-2012, 08:10 AM.Blue Jays, Blackhawks, AuburnComment

Re: 5/14 - 5/20 Game Discussion Thread
Doesn't look any worse than either third strike calls on Carlos Pena from either of his two 9th inning ABs from the Yankees' series last week. It happens. Get rung up on a bad call and walk back to the dugout. Don't act like a little girl and throw a hissy fit.
And besides, ump was giving the outside strike against righties to BOTH teams last night if you check the full chart.Comment

Though I do wish that Brett had maybe thrown his helmet in a different direction....Comment

Lawrie has to know that after the way he handled the 3-1 pitch (which was a ball), he had better be swinging on ANYTHING 3-2. You aren't getting a borderline call after showing up an ump like that."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. The 3-2 is borderline but still a ball. The 3-1, no excuse. I don't give a damn about Brett showing anyone up. Worst part is the strike 2 call was so late. I don't even blame Brett for walking towards first before the call was made.
