That's technically true but you rarely see the letters high strike call anymore. I did see the highlight of it on youtube and wow did Lawrie ever go off! He's probably going to be suspended 4-5 games to me.

Oh I agree with you. #1, it depends on the umpire and #2, if it is called, it's normally at the bottom of the letters, so to speak. Some umps do call high strikes. I don't care if they do as long as they are consistent. Nothing drives me nuts more when it comes to sports than officiating of some sort that is inconsistent. If you, Mr. umpire, have your own interpretation of the rules, fine. Just call it the same way the entire game so I know what and the hell I can get away with and what I can't.

Both 3-1 and 3-2 were freakin' atrocious.

Lord help me if baseball turns into basketball with the corrupt officiating.

At least Lawrie didn't spit on him.

After seeing that chart, pitches 5 and 6 obviously were balls. Pitch 5 was nowhere close to being a strike. I agree with you guys on umps with vendettas, or whatever. I don't want to see that in baseball.

I was three seats beside him, dude just did the ol' toss and run. Looked like he got away which was unfortunate.

I'll leave this topic with this; arguing anything related to the helmet toss is obviously moronic. But I'm going to say that expecting Lawrie not to start running to first on that 3-1 pitch in a one run game, or him not to get exceptionally pissed off after being called out is pretty dumb. I went back to those Pena AB's from last week, and on one of them all three strikes weren't in the zone. I would hope he got pissed off after that...show some backbone or something. No need to go total ape-**** like Lawrie did but if he just walked back to the dugout I'd laugh (for the record, I either was looking at the wrong other Pena AB or strike three was pretty much right down the middle).

Also, the third base umpire tonight for the Jays/Yanks game...Bill Miller! Although we all know its just going to end with the handshake apology and that'll be the end of it.

I'm hitting the road tomorrow for the Milwaukee area to visit some friends and family. We'll be heading to Miller Park on Saturday for the Twins/Brewers game. It's looking like great tailgating weather.

I think Miller Park is a great place to watch a game. On my visit there a few years ago, one thing that struck me was all of the people tailgating before the game on a Friday night in September. In Cincy, people only seem to tailgate prior to Bengals and UC Bearcats games. Never seen it for baseball. The fans at Miller Park were great too even with me and my buddy wearing Reds gear. Have a great time, man!

Because they don't penalize you more for appealing? All players appel their suspensions. It is part of their right. Might as well exercise it.
