    Brewers Management Disgust Me...

I don't understand this team at all.

They have a new stadium built, they're promising us a .500 season and that we'll never be a celler-dweller in the NL Central again, and yet they're saying that they will be cutting their payroll down to $30 million.

$30 million?! How can they expect people around here to actually support them? They were supposed to generate so much more money that was going to allow us to get better players by building the stadium. And with the revenue sharing, you'd think they'd at least be able to stay on the same level as last year, if not raise the payroll.

Yet they're going to drop it over $10 million?!

And what gets me even more is this. I realize that Sexson probably won't be a Brewer after this year. So with our payroll being cut and all, it's easy to say that it's best we get something for Sexson for the future. What do I just hear on the news? The Brewers are shopping Sexson to the D-Backs...for DANNY BAUTISTA AND JUNIOR SPIVEY!

Danny Bautista is 31 years old, is a career .268 hitter, has never had more than 350 ABs, is this how we're building towards the future?! And while I think Spivey shows some promise, he's only really had one good year out of his three years in the majors(yeah, i know he had injury problems this year). I've really seen nothing out of his that says he's going to be our future.

I just don't understand the Brewers. They say they're building for 2005 to be our year, so why wouldn't they be trading their star player for some prospects that'll come up in 2005? And how can they guarantee us .500, when instead of improving on a team that was decent, they're taking away pieces? Plus, it looks like our team president, Ulice Payne, is leaving after one year with the organization because of all the turmoil with management.

What I really hate about it is that Yost is gonna be the one that looks bad for all of this. I think he's a great manager, but you can only do so much without talent.

It's gonna be a long season Brewers fans(yeah, the three of us left). Payne gone, Sexson gone, Jenkins will probably be gone by the All-Star Break...at least we'll still have Podsednik...until he realizes he's worth more than the Brewers can pay as well.

Because Bud Selig sucks as both an owner and a commisioner (and if you think Selig doesn't still own the Brewers your crazy!).

          I know he does.

I really wish the Seligs would just sell the team. They haven't put a competitive team on the field of over a decade, I think it's time to give a more aggressive owner a shot.

Because the Brewers magically thought a new stadium would bring in money no matter what the team on the field does. They have had a decrease in attendance at Miller Park each year since it has opened. The stadium is nice but after fairweather fans go to a couple games at Miller Park just to see the stadium they quit coming because the team doesn't win. The stadium is just a novelty if the team that plays in it isn't commited to winning.

Also, the managemeent at the stadium is poor as well. I went to a game this year in the cheap seats. Before the game the group I went with moved one section over because it was competely empty along with about 12 other sections in the upper deck just to watch batting practice. A Usher comes over a tells us very unpolitely to move back to our seats 30 minutes before the start of the game. They did this to about 30 people just because those sections were closed?? I would understand if we moved down to the lower deck to seast that cost more but we didn't and the game hadn't even started. Would it have been to much for the Brewers to have let us move over 1 section into one that wasn't even being used. It just looks bad and does keep fans from coming back. We even filed a complaint with the Brewers at the stadium and they said they would contact us by mail. Did they??? Nope. I love baseball and I will still go to Miller Park especially when I move to Milwaukee this spring but I am not going to support the Brewers. I just want to see pro baseball. But they are not winning over any fans. End of rant.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Miller Park didn't draw as much as they anticipated anyways because the stadium is situated in no-man's land.

As for the team cutting payroll and all that...That's just terrible management. A new stadium is supposed to bring an influx of cash and allow a team to spend a lot of money in theory. Instead it looks like the Seligs are looking at the bottomline.

Miller Park is like a mile or 2 miles at most from downtown Milwaukee. If they consider that no man's land then half of the attractions in Milwaukee must be out in nowhere. It's the same location as the old County Stadium and they drew fans there. It's not the most scenic area because it is close to a industrial area but that shouldn't stop anyone from going to the stadium.

In 2001 the Brewers had a total of attendence of 2,811,041 which is 81.7% capacity. 2002 it was 1,969,153 and this year it was 1,700,354 only 50.1% total capacity. It's just that fans what to see a team that wins. The Brewers said that they need attendance to be at 2 million a season just to break even with a 30 million dollar payroll.

And if the Brewers get rid of team president Ulice Payne it just goes to show the organization is just stupid. At least Payne was talking about winning and helping the team maybe the Brewers don't like that kind of talk.
