Correct me if I'm wrong but Miller Park didn't draw as much as they anticipated anyways because the stadium is situated in no-man's land.

Miller Park is like a mile or 2 miles at most from downtown Milwaukee. If they consider that no man's land then half of the attractions in Milwaukee must be out in nowhere. It's the same location as the old County Stadium and they drew fans there. It's not the most scenic area because it is close to a industrial area but that shouldn't stop anyone from going to the stadium.

In 2001 the Brewers had a total of attendence of 2,811,041 which is 81.7% capacity. 2002 it was 1,969,153 and this year it was 1,700,354 only 50.1% total capacity. It's just that fans what to see a team that wins. The Brewers said that they need attendance to be at 2 million a season just to break even with a 30 million dollar payroll.

And if the Brewers get rid of team president Ulice Payne it just goes to show the organization is just stupid. At least Payne was talking about winning and helping the team maybe the Brewers don't like that kind of talk.

I think that Brewers are a small market team. In that which they have to count on their minor leagues to develop stars. They can't sign big name players like the Yankees do. They have to develop their players and sign players at a discount. It's understandable somewhat their cutting their payroll. They can't keep shelling out alot of money if their not bringing that money in. They might be able to keep that $40 Million payroll if they had better attendance.

We know the Brewers are a small market team. But the organization has lied to the fans who bring money to the team. When Miller Park was built the team got $400 million dollars from the public to build it. To get that money the Brewers told the public they would spend money on better players and now they are going to cut payroll??? I could understand if it was 70 or 80 million dollar payroll but it is 40 million. The 30 million would I put them at the bottom of the league in payroll I believe. And now it looks like Payne is leaving the Brewers and he seemed like he wanted to change things in Milwaukee.

The organization just acts like it doesn't care about winning and even if the Brewers had money to spend I don't think they would.

I thought they talked about Lyle Overbay being included. Or there was the rumored 3-team trade involving the Yankees, and the Brewers would get Nick Johnson + Spivey and Bautista. They are not the Yankees or Red Sox, they have to build their team through the draft and player development. Look at the A's, they draft well and spend a great deal of their resources on developing those draft picks into productive major leaguers. Keep finding homegrown players like Ben Sheets and Geoff Jenkins, that's the key.

                              Re: Brewers Management Disgust Me...

I know the Brewers are a small market team, and I know they can't spend money the way that the Yankees or Dodgers or BoSox do, but their payroll wasn't $70 million. It was only $40...among the lowest in the league to start with. And now they're cutting it even farther down. If they wanna make money, they have to put a decent team on the field. Most people don't wanna go see a 100 loss team.

And TexasJedi mentioned we have to rely on homegrown players...that won't even help. It's likely the Jenkins will be traded by the All-Star Break, $8+ million a year on a $30 million budget doesn't work, plus this upcoming season is the last year of his contract. And I think Sheets is elligible for arbitration, so his contract will go up too. Only a matter of time before we deal him too.

They keep telling us how great the team will be once we start calling up our prospects, like Hardy, Weeks, Fielder...but chances are after a couple years, they'll be dealt too because the Seligs refuse to stay on the same payroll as even most small market teams.

I'm looking at ESPN right now at the payrolls...here's some "small market teams"

                              Twins: $67 million
                              Marlins: $52 million
                              A's: $49 million
                              Tigers: $46 million
                              Expos: $45 million
                              Royals: $43 million

I don't know how accurate those really are, but even the Expos have a bigger payroll than the Brewers! And what did they average last year? 8000 fans a game? Plus they're owned by MLB!

Just makes no sense to me, with a new stadium(that the taxpayers of WI paid for) and revenue sharing, I'd think we'd at least be able to have a payroll around $45 million.
