Agree Bid Red. I look forward to continued conversations over the great game of baseball and all its whackyness. Talk to you later.

    I'm out.

What's wrong with baseball, well economically, the guys are beginning to make too much money and teams payrolls are way lopsided. Baseball tickets are too expensive thus the reason why there isn't much fan attendance. And the commish still isn't doing things right, especially with his team that he owns too.

While Baseball still has a fairly high payroll, it is decreasing year by year. I don't think that you'll see any salaries of the Arod ($24 million or so) or even Jeter (18 Million) anytime soon. Heck, look in the free agent market today. Nobody is willing to pay for the big named guys. When everything is said and done, Guerreo (sp) will end up with probably $12 a year at the most. A few years ago, he would have gotten as much, if not more than Manny Rameriez. The only difference between Vlad and Manny is Vlad plays gold glove calabar defense. The supply/demand of baseball will steadily balace over the next few years.

I think the average salary will have to stay where it is in order for baseball to survive. Out of the 200+ F/A's and if the average salary goes higher, I'd bet half of them wouldn't be able to sign with a team.

Oh it will. Don't worry about that. While some baseball owners aren't the smartest guys in the world, most of them come from the business world and know how to run a business. They just don't have the revenue support (fan base) to justify spending 2.5 million on an avg bench player. The only spender in this market will be the Yankees again, and thats only because of tht teams television contract they have with YES.
