Because A-Rod and Garciaparra are on the market and being shopped the quality SS's on the free agent market are being somewhat overlooked. Both Matsui and Tejada are valuable players that could be had for far less then they'd demand in other years.

Reyes is a SS. It would be a shame to mess with his game so early in his career. I don't think this is a good move by the Mets. If they focus their attentions on any one free agent it should be Mike Cameron. If the Mets played good defensively they could compete, and Cameron would solidify that team.

I should rephrase that... Cameron would solidify the defense of that team. As well as do wonders for the clubhouse-- I don't think there's a more liked player in the game. And, never underestimate the powers of a great centerfielder at Shea Stadium... whatever, just talk. In the age of the wild card a team just has to have one excellent month to make the playoffs. Could happen. Also could happen to more deserving teams.

Actually most SABR heads say that Jeter is an avg. SS at best. I don't have the numbes with me and i'm too lazy to look it up but most of them say that Jeter is more suited to play 3B.

To them it goes ARod, Nomar, Jeter.

Jeter definately isnt a subpar shortstop he is 5th in the Majors (A-Rod, Nomar, Tejada, Renteria) but no way is he the best.

Jeter is average at best on the defensive end. He is also the most overpaid player in baseball.
