Sheff not a yank??

I guess he is asking for more now then they originally agreed on at 38 millino over 3 years. Now he wants 42 million. I think the deal may go dead and there are reports the yanks have been in contact with Vlads agent Cuza to discuss adding Vlad to the outfild rather than the greedy sheff. I hope the yanks get Vlad as a fan of them, and i hope Sheff is forced to play for a way lesser contract for being so greedy.

I wouldn't call Sheff greedy per se. I think he saw the kind of money being thrown around to other people by the Yankees and decided he should squeeze the Boss for more money. Obviously it has backfired but I think he'll get around 30-35 mil over 3 yrs from another team which is not that bad of a dropoff.

Don't go blaming Sheff for trying to take advantage of the loose purse Yankees.

Exactly... the Yanks are just inviting these kind of situations..

Sheff prolly figures he puts up twice the numbers of Jeter and Jeter gets $20 mil, why can't I get $14+?

When a team spends a ton of money on "average" players, they are just open to these situations. And it makes sense too. If one good player sees that another "average" player is making X about of money a year, and they know they put up far better numbers they're going to be thinking, "Why shouldn't I be getting paid more then him?"

I'm not saying it is completely right, but when owners throw money around it is going to happen.

When a team spends a ton of money on "average" players, they are just open to these situations. And it makes sense too. If one good player sees that another "average" player is making X about of money a year, and they know they put up far better numbers they're going to be thinking, "Why shouldn't I be getting paid more then him?"

I'm not saying it is completely right, but when owners throw money around it is going to happen.

The problem for Sheffield is that not a lot of other teams are interested in his services. Really, I think the Yankees and Braves were the only ones that had the money and the need for him. I still think it's Sheffield and the Boss playing a game here so that the Braves won't win their grievance against the Yankees for the handshake deal. Honestly, I wouldn't want Sheffield back now even if he could come back. I'd rather have Vlad or some lesser guy like Guillen or Jones.

i agree with getting Vlad it just makes more sense if you are going to spend all of that money to try to get younger rather than signing a third DH. I would rather they went after beltran to play center and put soriano in left and matsui in right if they cant get vlad. Then they could always go out and get a second basemen or even a third basemen with boone shifting back to second. I am also real concerned about Pettitte, I dont think hes coming back to the Yanks and he would rather go home and frankly who could blame him the way steinbrenner gets on his case somehimes. ASlso Colon is off the market, so the Yanks better think uop somehting.
