Compare the numbers man... same power production, same defensive skills... hell Cristian has an edge as far as speed goes.. laugh if you will, those two are VERY comparable. Either way, I firmly believe there's NO WAY a guy that hits about a dozen homers a year should warrant a $20 mil price tag.

            Re: Sheff not a yank??

            Let's see:

Guzman .264 career batting average an average of 7 homeruns per season 57 RBI's per season

            Jeter .317 average about 17 homeruns a season around 82 RBI's a year.

            Defense they are very similar.

Stolen Base Totals are very Similar

            Jeter Career obp. of .389
            Guzman .302

            Slugging:
            Jeter .462
            Guzman .382

            OPS:
            Jeter .851
            Guzman .684

            Jeter's Worst Season:
            .291/10/70 .370/.405/.775

Guzman's BEST Season (In which he has never come close to since):
            .302/10/51 .337/.447/.814

Besides that year, Guzman never batted over .273, never hit 10 homeruns, never slugged over .400, and never had an OPS of .700

This isn't even close, and this doesn't even take into account all of Jeter's intangibles, leadership, or postseason numbers.

                  Re: Sheff not a yank??

Now let me add in I'm NOT saying Jeter sucks... I'm actually quite a fan of Guzman, so in comparing, it's not neccessarily an insult..

You must also keep in mind the people Jeter has in the lineup with him...leads him to see better pitches, and hit in more RBI's... Jeter's average is normally prety good, but how this tangent got rolling is because Sheffield wanted more money and people thought he was greedy for wanting $14 mil, and he hits about 40 homers per year and hits .299 average..

As far as my comparison of Cristian Guzman, I STILL think they are comparable, but I'll conced to the fact that Jeter is the best SS, especially after the numbers you tossed up. I just know Cristian is a pretty solid SS. I guess I'll stand corrected on Cristian's numbers, because I remember him putting up excellent numbers one year, and he really hasn't been around that long.

I agree. Pitchers would much rather try to get Jeter out than Bernie, Giambi, Posada, etc.

But saying him and Guzman is an OUTRAGE.
