    Any SF Giants fans wondering...

WHAT THE FVCK THEY ARE DOING?
i have seen the players they are lookin at and burnitz and darren oliver? WHAT? i live in the bay area and i am just about sick of hearin sabean and the front office tellin us that the team with 81 sellouts a year, the greatest player since ruth, WE DONT HAVE ANY MONEY. we live in the #4 market in the united states and they are playing small market, minnesota twin, kc royals ball. TRYING TO WIN ON THE CHEAP DOES NOT WORK. i dont want to hear about the marlins. let this marinate on your brain for a second or two, the motherflippin marlins have been in existance for less that 15 years, yet they have not 1, but 2 titles. Giants have been in san francisco since 1954, and have gotten the middle finger in all their attempts at winning a ring. Tired of excuses, tired of these rent a player deadline trading deals. it only makes perfect sense to get vlad. barry has 2 more years of great ball left in him, and vlad would be a perfect fit for the future. "HE IS OUT OF OUR PRICE RANGE." this is coming from the same team who payed marvin benard to a 3 year 21 million dollar deal 3 years ago. you cant do the cheap when you aint won nothin. and as a giants fan, we might as well get used to another disappointing season.

You got to be kidding me with Burnitz...

I've noticed that their only big acquisition was acquiring Hernandez, other than that? What are they doing, other than resigning players.

Rotoworld.com says you guys are backing off Oliver now cuz he has upped what he wants to 2 years 2.8 mil (originally 1 year 1.2 mil), and are now trying to sign Jose Jimenez instead, not a bad RP but hes not great

I wouldn't get all over Sabean if I were you. Brian puts together the best possible team he can, with all the money he is given to work with. Magownan, the owner, limits him to so much each year. He claims they still have to pay off the ball park, and other things. But it would seem more that Magowan wants to make as big a profit as he possibly can.

While the Giants haven't done much, I can't exactly say that the other teams in the NL West have made any great improvements as well. Sure the D-Backs signed Sexson, but they traded away Schilling. The Dodgers haven't made any great strides either. The Padres I think are still a year away from competing, but maybe they'll get a starter and be right in the thick of things. The Rockies are a joke, playing in a joke of a park. You won't have to worry about them, not for a while.

That's what happens when your owner finances the stadium out of his pocket. He worries less about winning and more about paying it off and getting to the point where everyone can earn a healthy profit again.

I don't know if I agree or disagree with it, but it is smart. The Giants have really been hamstrung because they cannot develop their own talent to save their life. They are getting much better in regards to the way they draft pitchers, but they are piss poor at drafting and developing position players. Name one good guy that actually came up through their system in the last 10 years or so. Pedro Feliz? Nope. He isn't bad, and is showing signs of blossoming into a solid player, but he will never be more than average. What happened to Tony Torcato? He was heralded, but turned out to be a big nothing. Lance Neikro? Doubt he will be much. Anyone remember J.R. Phillips, Jacob Cruz and Dante Powell? They were all much hyped prospects in their system. Where are they now?

The Giants, to me, seem to only want to do enough to put a team on the field that has a chance to compete for a division title and that's it. They never really seem to want to make that one extra move that could possibly put them over the top. If they are in contention, like they usually are, then they go and trade what few good prospects they have away to rent someone for 2 months, and it saps their already paper thin farm system even more.

It is a very bad cycle that they have gotten themselves into over the years. Unless they start hitting on some draft picks and developing a few franchise type players, you will see them continue to try and apply little band-aids here and there each offseason and pass them off as upgrades.

I will say that they at least seemed to try last year by signing Ray Durham and Edgar Alfonzo. That was just an aberration for them, though, because they shot their wad, figuring they would get back to the series and win since they had lost there the year before. It won't happen again anytime soon.
