    Lopez inks deal with O's

    3 years/23 million.

    Washington Post

Sounds like a lot, but since he made 7 mil last year, a 0.6 mil increase after a career year doesn't sound too bad.

Did Atlanta not want to sign him again? Or did he just not want to stay there any longer?

Nomar's homer off Pedro. Those four words just shouldn't go together. Not even on a day like 6/6/6. ~Bill Simmons

another quality signing by the O's, i like it......but, do they have any pitching? at all? they non-tendered 2/5 of their rotation....outside of R. Lopez, what do they have left???...i realize the AL East has some ferocious lineups in Boston, NY and Toronto, but all those teams also have very solid SP, im just wondering what it is that Baltimore has in this department

As with every other good player they had, Atlanta couldn't afford to resign him. Well, let me take that back. They could afford it, but instead Shuerholz goes out and spends the money on guys like Antonio Alfonseca and John Thompson.

I agree. The pitching is very suspect with the O's. Even with our two signings (and hopefully a 3rd with Vlad), our pitching proabably won't put us in the upper eschelon of AL East teams. But, optimistically, I hope that one or two of our young pitchers develop this year and we can finish with a winning record. We have spent the past few years developing our hitters (Matos, Gibbons, Bigbie, Roberts, Hairston, etc..), I guess it's time to develop our pitching.

This was a solid pickup for Baltimore. Lopez was great last year, but I'm not so certain you can count on him to do what he did last year again. But he should be very good, and still should put up solid numbers.

It's going to be exciting keeping up with my Yanks and the AL East. This division has great competition coming for this baseball season, as every team in the division is making a push to better themselves.
