I'm not too nervous. Javy is old (33), but i don't think he's done. He's played in 1156 games in his career and has hit 214 HR's, and driven in 694 runs while hitting .287. He averages close to 120-130 games / year. you can probably add another 10 games to that b/c he'll probably DH a few times with the O's. So if he plays 140 games, and based on career averages, we can expect something in the lines of

    .270-.290 AVG
    20-25 HR's
    80-90 RBI

That's a HUGE upgrade over our previous catchers of Gil and Fordyce. Now, whether or not that's worth 3/23 is debatable, but I think it's worth it.

He probabily won't have a good offensive year until his final year.

That seems hopefully optimistic. Now that he is 33, lets take his last 3 seasons since being over the dreaded age of "30".

Over the last three he has averaged....(about)..
            .275, 23 HR, 75 RBI, .333 OBP, .494 SLG, .808 OPS. 122 Games per season.

Not bad numbers, I think that is more realistically what you are looking at. Maybe a few more games, (DH), and maybe a little less in everything else statiscally, because he doesn't have as stacked a lineup that he had in ATL, and he is changing leagues.

If anything, I think his RBI totals will probably decrease b/c we don't have last year's Atlanta offense to give him those RBI opportunities. His HR's should be in the 20-25 range given the short LF porch in Camden Yards. Now of course, this all depends on whether or not he's healthy all year.
