1949 by David Halberstam is is amazing book. I see Crazy '08 was mentioned already as well.

        How is "The 2%"?

I read Terry Francona's book. Really enjoyed it.

Just finished "Phenom: The Making of Bryce Harper by Rob Miech".
It's about his season in Jr College using wood bats. It was pretty good.

Currently reading "Hank Greenburg: Story of my Life" and "The Boys of Summer" by Roger Kahn.
Both have been very good so far.

I've just purchased... Pete Rose: An American Dilemma by Kostya Kennedy. I'm really looking forward to it.

I've read his 1st book: 56: Joe DiMaggio and the Last Magic Number in Sports. He does a great job of writing within a historical/societal context.

These are highly rated on Amazon and Goodreads and should not be missed!

Have a couple of Books for you all. Just saw this thread.

Moneyball : It's a must for every amateur sabermetrician. Gives you an insight on what the A's organization was like at the time and the processes Bean went through.

Win Shares : Another great Bill James book explaining the concept of Win Shares. Pretty Stat heavy if you are into that sort of thing.

Baseball between the numbers : Healthy balance of numbers and stories. Keri and the boys from BP did a fantastic job with this book.

I just use BA's website, which has enough detail for me to google further info off of...

As far as the thread goes:

Ball Four and Moneyball are must haves...

The next one I have my eye on is decidedly "old skool" and somewhat obscure, but looks like a winner:

                      Do you have a favorite?

I'm leaning towards "Bullpen Gospels" or "Out of My League" to start with based off the reviews I've seen...

                      Thoughts?

                      Thanks!

It's often forgotten but "Three Nights in August" about Tony La Russa and a three game series between the Cards and Cubs (and much much more) is easily my second favorite book (behind Moneyball).

I would go, Out of my League, Gospels and then Bigger than the Game just to keep it somewhat chronologically correct.

Bigger than the game is probably the best though.

The Baseball Dictionary. It has literally any term you've ever heard related to baseball and so many more that you haven't heard.

I was chatting with the old guy from Wisconsin (70+) this past weekend while waiting on a table for lunch and he was telling me about a book he was reading on the 1957 Milwaukee Braves. Sounded interesting, I'm assuming it was this book:

Bushville Wins!: The Wild Saga of the 1957 Milwaukee Braves and the Screwballs, Sluggers, and Beer Swiggers Who Canned the New York Yankees and Changed Baseball

Anyone read it and recommend it?

Never read it, but based on the description and reviews, I sure want to!

Thanks for posting this great find!
