    Re: Baseball Books?

Just got done with The Captain by Ian O Connor, you just wouldn't believe someone has lived Jeter's life without seeing it lol, him and Tom Brady are a whole different level of just blessed.

About to start The Book by Tom Tango, interested in getting hopefully a definitive explanation on some sabre concepts I didn't grasp fully. This could be one that I love, given that it takes all of the information used to evaluate the game and reapplies it to determine how it should be played. I've always wondered about how effective a sac bunt is and things like that, now I'll have the answer, sounds awesome.

The only thing with reading anything by Jose is you don't know if you're reading fact, or fiction, or faction lol.

I saw "Juiced" on the shelves at the local thrift store for 99 cents and passed, lol. Maybe I should have bought it. There were two copies of his other book there too.

I'm currently reading "From MudHens to Mavericks". Well, not so much reading as flipping through as its one of those baseball fact books with no real narrative. This book details every minor league through Class A-Advanced, it's pretty dated but still a fun read.

I also own maybe half a dozen baseball stadium fact books, "Green Cathedrals" is one. I love books like this, you can browse through a few pages before nodding off at night.

I chose that magazine for my ball pool purely for that article.
I have this book on my list for a Fathers Day gift. Really excited to read it.

Saw Duchovny on MLB network a few months back, when he was plugging this book.
I only caught the last few moments so I didnt know it was a work of fictionuntil I found it at a bookstore. I decide to pick it up and, let me say, it is fabulous. I already want this to be a movie SO bad. it would definitely be rated R, and the book' sense of humour isnt goin to be everyones cup of tea as it deals with cancer, but I absolutely love this book and am now going to have to seek out:

                      Re: Baseball Books?

Caufield, I heard he wrote a fictional baseball book and that it was highly rated.
I may have to pick it up too.

                      Read The Matheny Manifest recently.
I really enjoyed the first half of the book but felt it kind of went off the rails in the second half as it becomes more or less a biography of his life.
I was hoping it would be mostly about his season with the little league team he was managing.
It was still enjoyable but I think it could have been better if he focused entirely on how he managed his sons team based on his beleifs, providing examples of how he handled situations where things could have gone south.
There are a number of ancidotes early in the book, but would have liked to read more.

                      Spoiler

Not yet. Hearing it was so enjoyable pushes it up in my list a little for sure, it's a very interesting concept.

I love baseball books, along with mystery/thriller (Jack Reache, Alex Cross, Harry Bosch.) Love Harry Potter, I get all my boos on audio from the library for the blind, download them, used to be tapes in the mail, all free!! For baseball, I'd recommend Pinstriped Empire by Marty Apel, as well as Munson: the life and death of a Yankee Captain. The Jeter book is awesome too. When I was young in 6th grade, I loved the baseball card adventures by Dan Gutman, great series for teens.
1458, not counting playoffs, that's the number of games in a row I haven't missed! Go Yanks!

Reading Lenny Dykstra's book right now.
I'm surprised it wasn't written in crayon.
The book is entertaining, but I don't think this guy has many brain cells left.

He fully admits to using steroids and doesn't see anything wrong with it.
"Should I let some guy who's more talented than me take my job? EFF no! I'm gonna use every advantage I can".

He also claims to have spent 500K on private investigators to gain dirt on every ump in the league.
Gambling problem, infidelity, closeted homosexual... he'd use it all to shrink his strike zone.

About half way through and it's been a very quick read. Not sure I'm going to finish it though.
I want to dive into the latest Leo Durocher book. Got a free sample and it's really good so far.
