Re: Rank your 2005 Console Baseball Games (based on what you\'ve seen)

Ive been dedicated to ASB the past 3 or 4 years, i have only tried the other games but I bought and consistently played ASB. This season, as early as it is, MLB 2005 has caught my eye. the animations i feel put ASB to shame, from what ive seen or heard, Im not gettin the Mojo that all that much will be different in this years installment of ASB. there are still 3 months for the other games to convince me otherwise but my EARLY rankings are as follows:

    MLB 2005
    ASB
    ESPN
    MVP

      MLB
      MVP
      ESPN
      ASB

I haven't read much of the previews lately, but from the early ones I read this is how I ranked them.

I owned all games last year and ASB was my favorite. My predictions for this year:

            1. ASB
            2. MVP (MVP will probably sell more than anyone)
            3. WSB
            4. MLB
            5. High Heat

Here's a quick rundown of some of the key additions/changes to the ESPN, MVP, and ASB for those of you haven't been keeping score...

                  MVP

-New hitting system based on a "timing window"
-Fielding/defense options mapped to right analogue stick
                  -Full minor league system
-More depth to franchise (team morale, scouts, etc)
                  -Hall of Famers
                  -Online on PS2

                  ESPN

                  -First-person baseball
                  -K-Zone pitching analysis
                  -Karl Ravetch/John Miller commentary
                  -Online
                  -Clubhouse (think Cribs)
                  -Momentum meter
                  -Deeper franchise

                  ASB

-Zone hitting (like High Heat) is now the default
                  -Adjustable pitch speeds
-Analogue batting option (like Tiger Woods)
                  -Pitch locations more inexact
-Fielder cam (fielding from a perspective like a third-person action game)
-Overhauled graphics, including a wealth of new textures and animations
                  -Online
-More franchise depth and team/stadium/player-specific details
-Selectable gameplay cameras (including behind the pitcher)

Thanks for the list of changes!

So far, ESPN Baseball doesn't seem to have changed much from last year...just more features. Hopefully, ESPN is working on improving their game. But so far, not much information from the ESPN camp.

ASB05 looks as solid as ever. I just read their developer's diary on Accalim's website and one of the developers admits that the gameplay was a bit lacking from last year. So that's their main priority for this year's upcoming version is to improve gameplay.

No offense but the things in bold either are not true or haven't been confirmed. You were close with the commentary, but Karl Ravech isn't color commentator, he's like how Chris Berman does it on ESPN Football or how Kevin Frazier does it on ESPN Basketball... Rex Hudler is still (unfortunately) color commentator.

None of the others have neither been announced nor confirmed... we can expect a Crib-type mode, and some other game mode (possibly and hopefully FPM), but those have never been actually announced.

I'm not positive on momentum meter... please explain what you mean.
