Re: 2013 Spring Training Discussion Thread

Where would they play? Do they have a baseball stadium that only holds like 10,000 fans? Ottawa already has one ready.

Something about Jays I hope they do...I hope they have 1-2 spring training games in the Dominican next year. They end 2013 spring training at Phillies MLB park, so why not to end 2014 ST, Jays play in Dominican?

All the guys the Jays have(and 99% for sure they will have all of them in 2014 too) from there would make them real popular, especially since they already had a huge past over there with guys like Griffin and Fernandez. They even did a mini documentary styled video about the Jays and their Dominican baseball history(talking about Jays players past and present from there, and the influence not only Jays, but other Dominican guys have had on baseball in that country)

That's one thing I wanna see too, just how big is Jays fanbase over there? Would be cool to have a team with huge support coming from multiple countries.

Well yea. AAA franchises don't just spring up ever year. If Toronto got Buffalo, NY had to have some body.

Justin Turner, who was meant to be Wright's replacement at 3B, appeared to break his ankle.

Gonna be one of those years...

Unbelievable, the Angels and A's just finished with a 13-13 tie. The Angels scored 4 runs in the top of the 9th and the A's scored three in the bottom half..

Marlins OF Prospect Christian Yelich(#13 on MLB.com) crushed his 5th HR of spring today, about 100ft past RF wall supposedly. This kid excites me, I can't wait to see him play as he could be the perfect #3 type of hitter for the Marlins

They need this kid to be good, someone to get on base in front of Stanton which could help possibly keep him here.

Do people see Twins trading Morneau? If so, what price might it take?

I'm hoping deal with Jays would happen(Morneau would more than likely wanna stay with Toronto if they're a playoff team, especially since they're Canadian).

Jays have Happ(a lefty starter, something Twins could use). Twins only left handed SP options are Hernandez(unproven rookie), Duensing(half starter, half bullpen guy, who is only good as a reliever) and Diamond(will miss 1-2 starts to begin season,so who knows if he'll be healthy for duration of season)

Could also package in Lind(under contract until 2016). It'll save Twins 5M in salary for this year, and they won't just have Morneau walk for nothing.

There was a heck of a game between the Braves and the Phillies today, it was 12-7 in the 5th inning and finished 17-10 to the Braves.

It seemed like constant offense and a great showcase for baseball.

Spring training really does seem too long. It should be 3 weeks at most and that's it.

1st week is where everyone gets a shot
2nd week is where only guys who have shot at making MLB roster are still in ST
3rd week is where the MLB guys get their exhibition games in

These are gonna be the longest 12 or so days ever lol.

On plus side, there will be many Jays games for me to watch on cable tv since a number of games are gonna be airing on tv again starting this saturday.

Kyle Kendrick looking good today and Dom Brown probably nailing down a starting spot in the OF. Keep rehabbing, Delmon. You may be needed as a fill-in.

There's scheduling conflict between O's and Ravens in September.

They are trying to find a way to solve it, but what I'm wondering is, why don't they just switch the games?

O's face White Sox then, so why not just have the July game in Baltimore and September game in Chicago?

Agreed. Brown is really showing his true potential this spring. Hope it carries over into the season.

I wouldn't think it would cost much for Morneau, he hasn't come close to a full season since 2008, and has played below average the past two years. I don't think anybody wants to give up something for an injury prone, average player who costs a lot in salary this year.

You don't understand how long it takes athletes to get into game ready action, and also to evaluate unproven players against major league veteran talent. Heck, only 3 weeks for ST? Thats how long it can take for a pitcher to get his endurance to pitch 6+ innings every 5 days, or throw 20 pitches every other day if a reliever.
The NFL has 4 weeks of games, plus an extra 3 weeks of training camp to prep for those 4 weeks of games.

My goodness... I'm watching the Angels/Rangers game, and in the 4th inning the Angels(including Pujols and Hamilton) have just hit 4 HRs to make 7-6. It was 7-nothing when the 4th inning started.
