I don't think Carter or Hernandez are HOF'ers but I was a little surprised that they didn't get 5%, but only cause some of the guys seem to vote for some guys who they know won't make it but to give them some respect for excellent careers.

Hopefully Sandberg will make it next year, but call me crazy, it seems like if I had a ballot I would just vote for whomever I thought deserved it regardles of whether it was their first year or who else was newly elligible that year, I think the power of electing HOFers goes to some of these writers heads, why did it take Gary Carter so long to get in, he was easily one of the best catchers in baseball for many years, it should have been a no brainer.

I don't even know if it's about being one of the best for a number of years though. <Dale Murphy rant on> Murphy was one of the 3 or 4 best players in baseball for most of the 80s, and he's down to 43 votes. Next year he'll drop off the ballot. <Dale Murphy rant off> You're right though. The don't know what they're doing. Sandberg should have been in on the first ballot.

Just a heads up to the Sandberg fans. It was pointed out this morning on the Tony Kornheiser Show that since 1945 only 10 players have been elected to the Hall without ever winning a World Series.

I'm not bashing Sandberg, just pointing this out.
