Re: Rumors circulating that the Cardinals signed Rick Reed.....
Yeah, I think we have been for a while. Actually, ever since we signed Tavarez to like a billion dollars a year, it's been reported that we wouldn't get him.
BTW, where are you reading/seeing/hearing this?
Anyway, Rick Hummell wrote a piece in the Post-Dispatch today trying to ease the tension felt in Cardinal Nation right now. It's not all that bad...

I still can't believe Tavarez got that good of a deal, I was almost sure he wouldn't get a deal like thatComment

Re: Rumors circulating that the Cardinals signed Rick Reed.....
Check out the Cardinals talk forum at stltoday.com/sports. There's a forum there for the Cards. Some people are now questioning the rumors, but there's a guy with link out of the ESPN forum. I'm now taking it with a grain of salt. Starting to think that everyone who is available is a possibility given who we've signed thus far.
I did read Hummel's article and I agree with him to a point. I'm a lot more confident in our middle relief and bullpen this year compared to last year. Our offense is as good or better than both the Cubs and Astros. I think LaRussa and Jocketty feel that we'll win a lot a games coming from behind and then shutting down the opposition with our relief pitchers. Even if we don't sign Maddux, the Cards always seem to have a pitcher step up and pitch better than their potential (or at least keep us in the game). Simo the year before, Haren last year.....possibilities of Marquis and Carpenter this year perhaps?PSN: sportdan30

Re: Rumors circulating that the Cardinals signed Rick Reed.....
I agree that it's not nearly as bleak this year as some are saying. Heck, if our bullpen can convert 60% of it's leads into victories, then it'd be leaps and bounds better than last year's effort.
Oh well. I'd like to have Reed. (Isn't that sad that I say that while the Cubs are looking at adding Maddux and the 'Stros have sighned Pettitte AND Clemons?) But, more importantly, I'd like to get this season started!!!!
April can't come fast enough!!!Comment

Re: Rumors circulating that the Cardinals signed Rick Reed.....
The saga continues... Baseball Reference says the number 1 most similar pitcher is Woody Williams. He is 39, so Jocketty will probably give him a 4 year deal. Oh, well, it is just a rumor for now.Comment
