They certainly dropped off big time as a playoff team, but with Sheffield, vazquez, Brown, and Lofton, they are still a very talented baseball team. The Yankees demise might be coming, but it's a lot of wishful thinking that it's going to happen this year.

Well my reasoning is the demise factor + the projected toughness of the entire AL as a whole. It'll be hard for the Yanks to sustain a high level of play throughout the entire year. One bad stretch could put them in 3rd.

To be honest tho that's the kind of thing that will likely happen to the Jays. They've been bitten by the long losing streak and they're my pick for the Wild Card. We'll see what happens.

It's not so much the yankees declining as much as the rest of the AL East(minus tampa bay) getting better as a whole. Everyone's pitching staffs and hitting has vastly improved. Baltimore (getting J. Lopez, Raffy, Tejada and Ponson returning) and Tornto (getting Miguel Batista and Ted Lily as well as their phenomonal offense from last year) have the talent for a bid for the AL East title and both of them IMO will have better teams than the Yankees.

Maybe me putting them at fourth was a bith harsh (yeah, i admit to being a Yankee-*****), but I can't see them finishing any better than third this year.

I'm not gonna presume the playoffs, they can always go either way. It's sad to say, but the M's will probably get beat out by the Angels this year. Well...it's sad for me to say...

I think everyone is underestimating the Devil Rays. It was well apperant last season that the Rays under Lou Pinella were much tougher. This wasn't the same team of the previous years where you pretty much expected to win against, and now entering their second year under Lou certainly won't hurt that.
