One child asked Pujols before the game to hit a home run for him. She had asked the same thing the previous two years, and Pujols did it. And he did it a third time.

"I was sitting at my locker thinking, ‘Is this for real?’ ” Pujols said. "Three years in a row she asked me to hit the ball out of the park, and I did it. It's pretty special for me and my family, this being Down Syndrome Day, and for that little girl."

Now that's an MVP — Most Valuable Person."

Just going by his numbers on the field, I'd say he is worth every penny. Looking at how he is off the field, I'd give him what ever he asked for.

my brother was one of those kids on the field. with the new baseball economy.. he is a great player and a great person.. he deserves everything he can get.. i hope he stays in stl.

Re: Pujols Greedy? Could it really be!?

The issue is not whether he is a good person or not, the issue is can the or will the Cardinals be able to pay him as much as he is asking, 10.5 mil a season sounds pretty darn fair to me, keep in mind the Cardinals are a mid-level team as far as payroll is concerned, if giving Pujols 15-20 million a year means that they have to trade Scott Rolen, not be able to re-sign Edgar Renteria, or not be competitive in the free agent market, than no, they should not give it to him.
      the team should come first.

I think Pujols is worth anywhere from 10-12 million right now. Because the players value in the market has gone down alot since 2000. I'm just trying to say the Cardinals have alot of money being paid to alot of players and it sure wouldn't hurt to trade him because he wants alot of money. I would not be surprised at all if they traded him if they can't work out some sort of a deal. Because I think the team knows it has alot of money owed to other players. They had to overpay for Rolen and their wanting to lock up Pujols and Renteria for long-term. Why not trade him away and get some prospects or something of value? The team can't just worry about one player, they need to worry about the team as a whole and how bringing on that 10-12 million is going to affect the team.

Your probabily right. Alot of times in Baseball guys go down alot of the times when their on the covers of a game. And factor that in with getting a big paycheck from the Cards, he could have an off year.

This is an Angel fan talking.

He should be getting paid more than Vlad. He puts up the same numbers minus the SBs as Vlad, but he can also play 3 positions if needed. He is also 6 years younger than Vlad. I am using Vlad as comparison because he signed his contract in the "new FA era". He was signed this year and I am using this current market as an example. If you think of it this way then I feel Pujols should get a dollar more than Vlad.

Also, don't tell me the Cards should get a discount because they are a mid market team. They just signed Rolen to a big deal last year and knew Pujols was making far less than what he deserves. The Cards should of thought about resigning Rolen to such a big deal. I understand they needed to lock a guy like that up, but he did take over Pujols' position and Pujols could be thinking "hey, they give Rolen a big deal and give him my position?" The Cards needed to KNOW what their payroll is going to be at and thought "do we want Rolen or Pujols?" (this is only if they can't pay Pujols his market value).

Think about this one. The Cards are playing a marketing game right now so if Pujols wants more money and they lose him then their fans won't be so angry. They have known for at least a year that Pujols is worth a hell of a lot more than the 1 million he made and a player who won the MVP and put up the numbers he has the past 3 years wouldn't want to be paid like an MVP?
