    2013 Prospects Thread

The title is pretty self explanatory.

In this thread, will talk about prospects throughout baseball and how they are faring in both the Big Leagues and the Minors. There was a thread like this last year I believe, but I couldn't find it.

    I'll start:

Mike Zunino, C, Tacoma Rainiers (Seattle Mariners)

Through four games, Zunino is absolutely killing the baseball. He is currently hitting .500 (8 for 16) with 3 home runs and 12 runs batted in. He also added 3 doubles and 1 triple on the season. His OPS is currently at a blistering 1.901.

Jesus Montero feels his *** getting a little warm right now. He is only 23, but time is of the essence. The Mariners can afford to not wait around for Montero like they have other prospects (Smoak and Ackley). I really like Montero and think he will end up being a good hitter in this league, but I do not want him behind the dish much longer. He should be an exclusive DH and I think Zunino is going to end up making that happen sooner rather than later.

Danny Hultzen, LHSP, Tacoma Rainiers (Seattle Mariners)

Hultzen is set to pitch again tomorrow against Sacramento. The #2 overall pick in the 2010 draft had a very up and down season last year, dominating AA but struggling mightily in AAA. He showed quite a bit of command issues when he was promoted and a good portion of the M's fan base started to panic. Me? Kid still has legit #2 stuff with an outside shot of developing into an Ace.

His first start this season went extremely well - 6 innings, 3 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks, and 8 strikeouts. Like Zunino, Hultzen could be in line for a May or June promotion if he continues to pitch well.

Taijuan Walker, RHSP, Jackson Generals (Seattle Mariners)

Only 20, the Mariners' organization elected to have Walker repeat AA. It was not a bad decision, as he had some struggles last season. He is still the most talented of the M's young pitching prospects, but I don't think his ETA is as close as originally thought.

He struggled with his command in his only start so far this year - 5 innings, 5 hits, 4 earned runs, 2 home runs allowed, 4 walks and 8 strikeouts. His next scheduled start is April 10.

Billy Hamilton is hitting .500 to start the year down in triple a Louisville with 6 stolen bases, including a steal of home. It has only been 16 AB's though, but it is an encouraging start.

      Stole home...

Kid is such a disruptive beast.

        Guillermo Pimentel - 22 PA .333/.545/.733 .400 ISO 18.2% K% 31.8% BB%

Its early, but the bold is extremely encouraging. If he has truly cleaned up his approach then he's on the fast track and can finally put his 70 grade power to use... I also heard that he really put in work on defense and can play a good LF and serviceable RF and CF now.

I'd love to see Pimentel pan out... Kid has serious power but his approach at the plate has been pretty abysmal so far. He's still so young and has time to put it together.

Also, Julio Morban is looking very good so far as well.

I knew this was going to basically be a secondary Mariners team thread before I even clicked on it.

Then take it away from there and contribute something for your team.

Everyone already knows about Myers and he should be up in a couple of weeks anyway.

Other than him, there's Archer who already started a few games last year and SHOULD be in the rotation now, but for some reason they feel the need to trot Fausto Roberto Carmona Hernandez out there every fifth day.

Lee, Odorizzi and Montgomery should also all see time this year at some point.

Other than that, I don't really care about guys that are 2-3 years away. I want to win now.

Wil Myers should end up being pretty special.

And to get this Mariners thread back on track...

Zunino hit a Grand Slam tonight.

Hultzen picked up win #2... Five innings, four hits, 2 earned runs, a walk and 6 K's.

Someone who the Phillies need up is Darin Ruff. He can smack it but is pushed out of the lineup since Howard is our 1B. Ruff was sent down to learn LF and could push Dom Brown out if Brown isn't hitting.

I would prefer a Ruff, Revere, Brown OF and platoon Mayberry in one of the corner spots.

Hopefully Darin Ruff can make progress @ AAA Lehigh so that he can be OF candidate.

Kevin Pillar and Kenny Wilson are just KILLING it right now. Don't have numbers atm (on my phone) but I'm seeing a lot of 3/5, 4/5 games. Wilson's a toolsy CF/SS and Pillar is a college OF that has hit spectacularly at every level.

Last year's #2 overall selection, Byron Buxton, has been really hot so far this season. He's hitting 10-20 with 2 HRs, 6 RBI, and an OPS of 1.515 down in single-A Cedar Rapids. I really hope he stays down there because I'm definitely going to try to get to a few Kernels games again this summer. Also, Miguel Sano is hitting .421 in Ft. Myers thus far.

                              Highly unlikely.

Dude is pretty mediocre at everything. Average contact hitter AT BEST, with very little power. That power just seriously never developed. Strikes out a ton and doesnt walk nearly enough, either. He also doesn't run anymore (only 6 steals in 2012) and has been injury prone. Did I mention that he also has a suspect glove? Ugh! Pretty solid arm, though, but it doesn't matter when you're an offensive liability with poor instincts in the field.

If fully healthy, his complete upside is about a .250 hitter with 10 HR and 10 SB per year who never walks and plays subpar defense. That's not going to cut it at SS in Tampa, especially when Lee plays the same position and has a much higher upside (.275 with 40+ SB potential and above average defense) and better makeup.

Beckham was just a flat out bust of a pick. It makes me sick to my stomach that the front office picked this bum instead of ****ing Posey.
