    Catch or Drop?

Just a scenario I was thinking about and wanted to see what people would do in this situation.

    Scenario:
Bottom of 9th(or extras), 1 out, bases loaded.

Batter hits a ball in foul territory(it's a for sure foul ball, hit about 320 or so feet) but it's an EASY catch at the wall(meaning the fielder will be standing in the spot, waiting for the ball to come down), would you catch the ball(meaning runner at 3rd has chance to run home and score winning run,but you also have chance to throw him out), or let it drop foul(since you know it's for sure a foul ball) and give the hitter another chance to get a similar type of hit(since with 1outs and a runner on 3rd, he doesn't need a hit, just a ball to deep outfield).

Remember, in this scenario, if the ball it caught(regardless who the runner is) the runner at 3rd WILL BE GOING.

    Re: Catch or Drop?

It would be hard for ANYONE to throw out a runner if they are at the fence or just short at the warning track. Even Clemente, Parker, Ichiro, Guillen, ect

    Let it drop

Catching that ball is a guaranteed loss.

Yep. Unless the runner falls while running home, the game is over.

That is still to far as it would take a perfect throw to get them ... most OFs, even the best can't hit home in a situation like that at a high %.

Have to let that drop. No doubt.

I'm not particularly convinced by the logic of trading a run for an out to begin with. I can see it as it's circumstantial, just not sure how much I agree with its' general merits. In this case, since the run will beat you for sure, not a hard decision.

Drop, no question. It's not an error if you do so either (directly stated in the rule book).

This is one of those things I would determine on the fly (pun discovered), but it's something that is like impossible for me to teach to my softball players. I would just yell "DON'T CATCH IT!" if a situation like this came up haha.

A more interesting scenario would be 230 feet away and the road team up to bat. Hmm...

The situation that you giving needs to be explained in more detail. Is the season just beginning or is game 7 of the World Series? I think if it's at the beginning of the year or in the middle of the year you take a chance, catch it and try to throw them out, but if your season is on the line than you let go foul.
