Re: Getting closer to fan free agency - help me pick a new team!
I'd stay with the Mariners. I dealt with similar stuff as an Orioles fan...several bust prospects, terrible front office, Angelos not spending money/meddling/nixing trades, but being in Camden Yards last year for the ALDS was one of the most awesome and rewarding experiences ever. Dealing with the losing sucks, but it's worth it once the team gets good. Plus there's Zunino, Walker, Paxton, and Hultzen to look forward to.^^^This is the best advice anyone can give you.
Born in '81 I spent my childhood going to see awful Phillies teams play in a horrible stadium. When the product on the field was all too boring, I would go to the 700 section of the vet and stare out at the city.
I loved Rocky and the Blue-Collar nature of Philadelphia/Pennsylvania and I stuck through the Von Hayes/Ricky Jordan Phillies, got teased in '93 and had my heart ripped out, and then on along came Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, and Pat Gillick like knights in shining armor.
You don't want to find a new team. You want your team to win. You need to stick with them through the ups and downs.Agreed with those saying stick with the M's. It'll feel that much better when they finally do start succeeding again (and they will, every team does at some point).
All organizations go through horrible management at some point, then they all get great management at some point. In my mind, part of being a fan is sticking through the hard times because it makes the good times that much sweeter.
The only reason I came in here and busted your chops was because no matter what "new" team you started to follow, you would jump right back over to the M's if they started winning next year and there is nothing you can say that would make anyone believe differently.
Stay true to your team.Comment

Seriously, I did the same thing with the Reds. The combo of their disassembling post-Barry Larkin and my kid becoming a Phillies fan (which was my second) made it easy. I wasn't following baseball as closely and the Reds then became unrecognizable to me sealing the deal.
Any one of the Mariners would gladly jump ship for a better deal somewhere else, so, where I once was a "stay true to your team" guy when players stuck around, that means little, if anything anymore.Last edited by daflyboys; 05-14-2013, 06:27 AM.Comment

As a Yankee fan, I find the Cardinals a perfect franchise. Let's look at these pros:
-Consistent playoff contenders
-Best farm system easily
-Maybe the best fans
-Beautiful Ballpark
-Friendly city
I envy them.

Prefer live. Way too easy to mess up and see a score doing DVR with smart phones, internet, etc... and I wouldn't want to have to avoid, well, everything. Not to mention, commercials give me time to do other things.Comment

Go for the Jays. They have a couple of stars in their lineup after the New York and Miami trade but they also have some up and coming prospects like Anthony Goose, Aaron Sanchez and Daniel Norris. Not to mention Marcus Stroman...Comment

These posts are done out of frustration, as I'm sure you guys already know.
I will always be an M's fan. It's just that, I am so sick and tired of ownership and their front office. No accountability, when the rest of us are head accountable in a ****ty economy to do our jobs well.
I think anyone here who knows me in the least knows that I would not jump ship... The thought of loving another team doesn't sit well.
It doesn't change the fact that, by and large, the M's are the worst ran organization in baseball... But it can't last forever, right? I want to be able to be proud to take my sons to a big league game in five to six years, so they have time.
Go M's.Comment

Go M's.
The Braves are my number two, though. I'm allowed to have a number two, are are you. There's no shame in loving two teams, as I'm sure many others here do as well. I never dropped a single shred of loyalty from my affection for the Giants just because I also have another team to root for. Not one.
That's what I thought you were going for. Not "jumping ship." Nobody should ever do that, really. I was just selling you on why the Braves should be your #2. If you switch teams and in the next couple of years the mariners make the playoffs, you would probably root for them then. So even if you switch your favorite team, deep down inside you would still be pulling for them and want them to do well.Comment
