Every park is required to. I think?

He means in the stands. And they have it there for the same reason Baylor has one on their football field. They can't fill the stadium to capacity so they cover over the empty seats.

No, I'm pretty sure he means on the field. I'm watching the game. Josh Donaldson ran over to the tarp and the issue was raised.

I'd imagine because the roof probably takes a number of minutes to close. Torrential downpour comes along, might as well cover the field while you're waiting for the roof to close.

EDIT: Too slow so I'll change the subject.

Royals just set a club record for consecutive home losses at 11.

Right, that's what the Brewers announcers were saying. But typically I think they close the roof beforehand if there's even a threat of rain in the area. I can't remember a time when rain started to fall with the roof open.

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it, I suppose.

The roof can be closed in 10 minutes.

Maybe for if the roof breaks.

FWIW, looking at pictures of Tropicana, it doesn't seem like there's a tarp there.

Yeah, I'd imagine with a dome, where you have no chance of the field getting wet, you would not be required to have a tarp. There was never a tarp at the dome.

Happened when I was at a game there actually. It started sprinkling and they closed the roof. It's quite the spectacle to see that thing close in person. Quite an impressive piece of engineering.

And man, the Royals are bad. I remember thinking they had something going when they swept the Twins earlier in the year and held the Twins off the scoreboard for the most part. Nope. They're lost.
