What is the most overrated record in MLB?

Can you honestly say the 56 game hitting streak is more difficult than hitting a HR in 8 consecutive games? Honestly, Orel Hershisers record of most consecutive scoreless innings might be just as impressive and just as difficult as the 56 game hitting streak but Im telling you that the 56 game hitting streak while difficult is not important.

Yeah, I'd have to say that there will be some 300 win pitchers in the years to come. We're at a time in baseball with pitchers that it's out with the old and in with the new. Guys like Mark Prior, Josh Beckett, and Brett Myers to name a few who are loaded with superstar potential and are young horses. When you look at the pitchers now in their late 20's to early 30's none really jump out as guys who are going to eclipse 300.

How is it not important? If it's not as important or as easy as you make it out to be then how come nobody has broken it or come close to breaking it on a regular basis?
That record is very impressive as is Orel's but how can you slight Dimaggio? That's just pure ignorance.

How is it not important? If it's not as important or as easy as you make it out to be then how come nobody has broken it or come close to breaking it on a regular basis?

I said that it is difficult but I also think it is overhyped because its Joe D's record. On the same token there are other records that are just as impressive and are far less hyped. There are also records which are more important but far less hyped.

BTW, just because I dont buy into the variety of statistics that people are forcefed doesnt means that its ignorant. Ive provided valid reasons for why this record is overrated. Maybe your the one who is blinded by your own admiration of Joe DiMaggio. Understand also, that Im not out to get Joe D. He was one of the great all around players and I have given him credit for a having more lifetime HRs than Ks. I think this is far more impressive than the hit streak.

I agree with you in a sense. Of course Joe D's record is going to be "known", but that's because he was a great player and he's talked about a lot. I wouldn't call it hype.

Another record that I think is next to untouchable would be Pete Rose's record for hits in a career.
A record that I think is overrated would be Barry Bonds' single season walk record.
