Strikeouts by a batter in a season. Bobby Bonds has the record with 189, but also hit .300 that season with 48 SBs, 200 hits, 26 HRs and 77 walks -- hardly a bad year.

Too that effect, strikeouts by a pitcher are overrated when compared to ERA and whip.

I agree with Sportsman, the single season HR record has lost it's luster, i admit the "great HR race" of '98 was fun to watch, but when Barry Bonds broke the record 3 years later and the world did not even bat an eye, it became less meaningfull, besides, in todays juiced ball-steroid induced era of offense, whats the difference if one guy hits 70 HR's and ten other guy's hit 50.

What is the most overrated record in major league baseball? I think its the 56 game hitting streak. Conversely, I think the slugging % is the most underrated stat. I think the 56 game hitting streak's significance has been manufactured due to the fact it was Joe DiMaggio who did it.

I don't know, that's still a pretty impressive record in my book.

Wow saying the 56 game hitting streak is overrated. That record is pretty much an untouchable. There really hasn't been a realistic threat to that record in years and it is overrated?
