I really doubt that Ruth hit the first in the park homerun

I can't find the very first ITP HR but the earliest date I could find was Sam Crawford who in 1901 hit 12 ITP HRs. Ty Cobb also won a HR crown in 1909 but all his HRs stayed in the park.

Sorry footballforever but your movie was wrong.

                  Re: Did You Know?

I think the legend goes that he hit the first inside the park homerun on a ball that didn't leave the infield. A lot of stories from back in those days get blown way out of proportion. I find it very hard to believe that a ball could be hit so high that it allows a player to run all the way around the bases before the defense has a chance to throw it home, unless of course the Yankees were playing the Kalamazoo Mongaloids.
