You only needed 2 more million dollars a year and A-Rod would have been yours.

Hardly an unlimited amount of cash.

I hope Red Sox fans make a "Lucchino sucks" t-shirt.

And if the article in this thread is true, they were also willing to pay a lot more to get Arod and keep him away from the Yankees. Bet they would have paid that 2 million a year more now.

And we didnt "drop the ball" exactly, its just we dont have an unlimited supply of cash like mr. steinbrenner

Coulda fooled me. The Sox have been dishing out the dough this offseason just as much as the Yanks.

The Sox have a huge payroll, but even they can't afford 20+ million a year, especially when adding another 3 or 4 million in an Ordonez deal. The Yankees still have a payroll 50% higher than the Sox, and thats a lot of money.

Well, apparently they must've thought about it. It couldn't have been to far out of their budget since this that trade almost happened twice for them.

Basically, the Sox dropped the ball on this one. They had their chance and the Yanks came in and took him away.
