At least its not the NFL
Whoever wins the World Series is validated as a champion. The Super Bowl is won by who ever was able to stay healthy that year and get some calls go their way in the playoffs (tuck rule). There usually is some doubt about if the Super Bowl winner is the best team in football. After a 162 game baseball season, the best team rises to the top. And whoever beats the Yankees in the post season is the best team in baseball. One thing we should congradulate and thank the Yankees for is validating the World Series champion as they have done the last three years and going on four.Tags: None -
Re: At least its not the NFL
Whoever wins the Superbowl, World Series, NBA and/or NHL finals is the champion. Not much need for any more validation than that.
I understand what you're trying to say, but I don't agree. Especially when it comes to football. There's no second chance in football if you have a bad game in the playoffs like there is in baseball, hockey and basketball. You lose, you're done. To me, a team that can win every game in that type of playoff format earns the right to be called champion.
And I don't share your confidence that the Yankees will get beat in the World Series, should they make it. They are a very strong team and a definite contender. -

Re: At least its not the NFL
Please don't tell me you think the Patriots weren't the best team in the NFL this year. You must know they were because you mention a play that happened 2 years ago in the playoffs rather than anything about this year.
Any team that wins the championship for their league is the best team. If they weren't they wouldn't have come out on top. Just my $0.02.New England Patriots
Boston CelticsComment

Re: At least its not the NFL
Patriots were the best this year. They were solid all season. Yeah, whoever can handle the pressure deserves the trophy. I was just making a point that the Yankees are not the best team as they are on paper every year according to the media. Again just making a point that complaining about all of the money and unfairness doesn't work. If there the best, beat the best, and become the best.Comment

Re: At least its not the NFL
Call me old fashion, but I deem the champion the best team of the year in their respective sport. So yes, I think the Patriots were the best in the NFL this year and I think the Marlins were the best last year (although I do think the Sox were the best in the AL). Whoever wins it all this year, will be deemed the best in my eyes.Comment

Re: At least its not the NFL
I thought this thread was going to be about how the salary cap is too restrictive on teams who are willing to spend money to the point that seeing this constant turnover is becoming boring. People like excellence (tempered by moderation which is what does not exist in baseball) and in the NFL that is not what you are getting now. This is probably the first time since Ive been watching football where current teams are obviously not as good as they were ten years ago. Low hanging fruit (it gets increasingly more difficult to improve) might be part of it but teams now are not good at all facets as they were required to be 10 years ago. NE is a perfect example. They averaged 3 YPC!!! Yeah they had a good defense but it wasnt exactly the 85 Bears or the 2000 Ravens. Football has fallen into mediocrity. On the other hand baseball has gone too far in the other direction where its closer to professional wrestling than competitive sports. When watching the Yankees play small market teams is like watching the Globetrotters play the Washington generals, something is wrong. The NFL needs to be more like MLB and the MLB needs to be more like the NFL.Comment
