Re: 8/19 - 8/25 Game Discussion Thread
Interesting thing to note is that by coming overseas, Ichiro almost certainly sacrificed being the all-time hits leader in Japan (only one NPB batter finished his career with over 3000 hits).Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Another Kershaw outing, another 8 shutout innings.
At this rate, he'll not only walk away with the NL CY Young, but win NL MVP.I write things on the Internet.

Re: 8/19 - 8/25 Game Discussion Thread
Officially, Ichiro's hits in NPB don't count, of course. But he's now only the 6th player with 4000 professional hits (MLB, minors, and Japan), so that's worth acknowledging. Given how he started racking up 200-hit seasons as soon as he arrived in Seattle, does anyone really think Ichiro wouldn't have been able to hit major league pitching in his early-mid 20s?

Re: 8/19 - 8/25 Game Discussion Thread
I agree that 4000 combined is a pretty huge accomplishment despite them not all coming in the bigs--especially with almost 3000 coming in MLB. I mean, if we extrapolate his hit rate backwards to substitute for his NPB days (even if we are conservative in our estimates), he'd still be at least in the high 3000s if not at 4000 anyway. He mauled MLB pitching for a decade (and even set the MLB hits record for a single season for cryin' out loud), so it's not like his numbers are only from beating up on 2nd tier pitching. Ichiro is a living legend, and some may feel too nationalistic to acknowledge that, but there ain't no denying that fact.
It was pretty comical.

Never thought I'd say this, but, John Smoltz, shut the **** up.
All year on MLB Network he has been going on and on about how how the Braves strike out too much and rely too much on the HR. Every chance he gets he brings this up... like it's going to be their downfall, or like some how they are magically winning in spite of this glaring flaw.
Well now they have the best record in baseball and really haven't had trouble scoring runs. 2nd most in the NL I believe. I hate to break it to you Smoltzie, but apparently, you can have a successful offense and plenty of strikeouts. Production is production, it doesn't matter how you come across it.Now, more than everComment

Phillies walk-off on the Rockies for the second night in a row! Domonic Brown with the game winning RBI single. Really awesome to see the new energy this team is playing with since Ryne Sandberg took over as manager.Comment
