Betancourt isn't right. They should probably just let Brothers close games until Betancourt can figure it out.

(Not to mention that was the luckiest RBI single you can get from Michael Young lol)

Considering Betancourt blew the save and game last night, I was surprised to not see Brothers in there in the 9th. Phillies seem to struggle against him. And yes, very lucky RBI single there.

Yep. I would have no faith in Atlanta beating a team like the Dodgers in a 7 game series in the playoffs this year.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but a team full off free swingers against a team with two elite strikeout guys at the top of the rotation doesn't bode well.

I can't stand the Braves anyway (the Yankees of the south) so I'm a little biased, but it's whatever.

Well, Betancourt is a very good closer when healthy. He had only blown 1 save before this series. But, he was coming off the DL from an appendectomy and didn't go through a rehab stint in AAA (just threw simulated games), so they were probably just hoping he could work some of the rust off.

It was pretty apparent he still didn't have his stuff even before he was in jeopardy of blowing the save. All of his pitches were elevated and he is a guy who just pounds the knees and usually has great accuracy.

Now it is being said that he may have tore a ligament in his elbow. He's probably going straight to the DL and who knows, if it is serious enough, it could be the end of his career considering he is 38 years old.

I have a lot of confidence in Rex Brothers, but they are definitely going to need to get some bullpen help this offseason if Betancourt isn't around.

Not to mention Hyun-Jin Ryu. He's another guy in the Dodgers' rotation that gets a ton of K's. The Dodgers look like they are going to be a very tough team, especially if Matt Kemp comes back and starts playing like Matt Kemp.

The Yankees of the south? How do you figure?

                Yankees Payroll - $228M (1st overall)
                ...
                ...
                ...
                Braves Payroll - $89M (18th overall)

Completely different approaches and organizations. Braves nearly always develop from within (Medlen, Beachy, Wood, Minor, McCann, Freeman, Heyward, Simmons, Schafer, Gattis, Kimbrel are all home grown) and nearly always have (Glavine, Smoltz, Avery, Lopez, Klesko, Lemke, Blauser, Gant, Murphy, Horner, Wohlers, Mercker, Stanton, Justice, Millwood, etc).

How do you see the two as being the same?

Meh...we're 5-2 against the Dodgers this year. The Dodgers are a different team now, but so are the Braves. The only thing that has me doubting this team now is the injuries. Heyward is killer and if Beachy goes down...yikes.

Has nothing to do with payroll at all, but more with their out of market fanbases.

I grew up in Central Florida and every redneck and his brother was a bandwagon Braves fan. It was infuriating and akin to people elsewhere being Yankee fans "Just cuz doe!"

You don't have to like and/or agree with my opinion, it's just my own experience.

You and I are pretty much the same age, so you know the Marlins weren't around back then. I grew up in Florida and the nearest team to me was the Braves and they were the only team I got on the radio...who should they have been rooting for? I realize I don't have to like/agree with your opinion...just curious because I've never heard the Braves likened to the Yankees.

Actually, now that I think of it, you're right. The Yankees have had way more success so it's kind of an insult to them to compare the Braves to them.

But I'm all about insulting the Yankees, so there's that.

But as for a deep, philosophical discussion about this subject involving me: not going to happen. Bottom line is that I just plain don't like the Braves. Never have, never will and that's that.

The worst thing about the Braves fans in the south is they don't know ****. They know Chipper Jones that's it lol, and now he's retired. I hate rednecks though, They all have the Braves hats, but don't know **** about them. It's pretty bad when I can name every player on that team, and their answer is well I'm still a big fan. Clearly.

The Yankees and Braves are similar in that I got damned sick of seeing them on my TV screen every October for most of the last 20 years. The Braves were worse, in a way, because at least I got genuine satisfaction out of rooting against the Yankees. I hated the Yankees; I just wanted the Braves to go away.

The Dodgers are a much different team now and I hope for your sake the Braves are a different team too, otherwise it'll be another early exit in the playoffs.

Speaking of the Braves and their fan base, why is it that every time I see a game being played there, their stadium is 75% empty?

I don't blame the fans of the south drifting towards the Braves, it's just like in the midwest, the team to like was the Cubs because they were the team on TV and if you didn't have a "local" team, they were pretty much your team by default.

It's the fans like my old roommate that purely like the mainstream teams that I have a problem with. (He liked the Yankees, Heat, and Longhorns )

This is pretty much spot on. The Yankees I have a genuine hate for since they've won too much. The Braves, on the other hand, are just annoying because they always blow it in the playoffs so they are essentially just taking up space.
