Royals willing to listen to offers for Billy Butler according to Buster Olney. Definitely fine with trading him, but I don't think he'll bring back much.

Wonder if the M's will finally go after him? Maybe if Morales gets signed, doubtful though.Ducks, Mariners, Blazers, Lillard, Favre, Iverson, Griffey, Hernandez, Hawks, Wilson,

I wouldn't mind a Kinsler/Butler trade from the Rangers side. Not too sure how Royals fans would feel about it.Comment

Re: 2013-14 Hot Stove League Thread
I don't get the Lincecum thing. If they were willing to give him that much dough they should have just given him the qualifying offer. If he accepts, nothing is lost as they were willing to give him a contract anyway. If he declines they get a nice comp pick if he signs elsewhere, or leverage for re-signing him when other teams become leery of losing a pick.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: 2013-14 Hot Stove League Thread
I...I just don't know what to think of the MLB anymore seeing Lincecum sign a 2 year, $35 million deal.
I mean, I guess the flashes here and there the Giants thought he could regain his form?
I gotta imagine though that is $35 mil better spent elsewhere. And then you gotta look for impending free agent pitchers, a guy coming off a negative back to back WAR seasons just got $17 mil a year...7 National Championships

Would of liked Lincecum as a M, but not for that price, I kinda hope a team signs Morales and we can pick up Butler in a trade, but i doubt Morales gets signed by anyone other than the M's.Ducks, Mariners, Blazers, Lillard, Favre, Iverson, Griffey, Hernandez, Hawks, Wilson,

Re: 2013-14 Hot Stove League Thread
I much prefer fWAR to rWAR as rWAR uses a runs scored basis in their calculation, whereas fWAR uses FIP, and RS has been shown to regress to FIP over time I believe. Lincecum has posted xFIPs of 3.82 and 3.56 the past two years, 2% and 6% better than league average. This, coupled with his age, his resume, his durability and his very nice Steamer projection probably make him worth the money. The 2 year term is certainly ideal as well. Only thing that gives me pause is the 2 MPH velocity drop off in the past two years."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: 2013-14 Hot Stove League Thread
In no way, shape, or form does Lincecum's recent performance justify $17MM/year. That's silly. Sure he's a fan fave and shows flashes of what he used to be, but c'mon. I think more than anything, this signing just shows us that the economics of baseball are very healthy right now......or very unsustainable.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

I'm curious...does anyone sign Ozzie Guillen or are his managing days done?"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Sounds like Atlanta won't make much of an effort signing him. Likely destinations are Texas, Boston, the Yankees, Cubs, and Angels. Blue Jays and White Sox are darkhorses.Comment
